Disqualifications
Performerswillbedisqualifiedforviolatingthespiritoftheregulationsgoverningthecompetitionandthe
individualeventsasdeterminedbytheTournamentCoordinatorandtheadhoccommittee.
Disqualificationsusuallyhappenasaresultofnotfullyunderstandingtherulesandrarelyoutandoutcheating.
Toavoidbeingdisqualified,rememberthatthecompetitionisallaboutadjudicatinghardwork,talent,andthe
poweroftheperformer.Hence,readtherulescarefullyandavoidtheuseofcostumesand/orpropsthatare
nonessentialtotheunderstandingofthescene.
Performersandtheadvisermayappealadisqualificationtothestateboardeitheratthecompetitionoratthenext
stateboardmeeting.Thedecisionoftheboardisfinal.

GuidelinesforActing&MusicalCompetitiveCategories
ForAllCategories
1.Nocostumes,coordinatedclothing,ortheatricalmakeupareallowed.Participantsareencouragedto
dresshowtheywouldforageneralauditionorajobinterview.
2.Onlyintegralhandpropsmaybeused.
3.Onlystudentsfromthesameschoolortroupemaycombinetoenterduo/groupscenesandduet/group
musicalscenes
4.Allscenesshouldhaveandintroductionwhichmayonlyincludestudentsname,titleofselection,
charactersplayed,andthenameoftheplaywright.Timebeginsonceaperformerconcludestheintroduction.
5.AllperformanceeventsarelimitedtofiveminutesexceptMONOLOGUEwhichislimitedto3MINUTES
totalforthetwocontrastingpieces,witha15secondgraceperiod,aftertheintroduction.Studentswhogoover
thetimelimitwillnotbeeligibleforshowcasingatstate.
6.Allperformancespaceswillbeequippedwiththreechairsandasmalltable(cardtablesize).
7.Material(exceptpantomime,whichmustbeorginal)mayonlybedrawnfrompublishedscriptswrittenfor
theatre.Worksfromotherformssuchasmovies,poetry,fiction,andsonglyricsarenotpermitted.

1.Studentsmustpresenttwocontrastingselectionsthatmaybefromdifferenttimeperiods,styles,genresor
moods.
2.Onlyonecharacterfromeachselectionmaybeused.
3.Theactorplaysonlyoneroleineachselection,butmayactandreactasifotherswerepresent.
4.Thetwocontrastingselectionscombinedcannotexceedthreeminutes.
