Official Rules and Regulations for the Chili Cooks

The following rules are to be adhered to by all (chair people, cooks, judges, & friends).
1. There is no entry fee. Teams may consist of up to 3 members. Contestants may enter up to
2 separate batches of chili. There will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winner & a Fan Favorite, Best
Decorated Table, & Best Team Name.
2. Chili is to be brought ready-to-eat. It is suggested participants bring a crock-pot or some
device to keep chili warm.
3. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own utensils & products relating to their
chili submission and maintenance of its proper temperature for serving. Spoons &cups for
serving chili to the guests will be provided by the Cook-off committee.
4. Each contestant must cook a minimum of six (6) quarts of competition chili (this is about the
size of a large crock-pot).
5. Each contestant will be assigned a contestants number by the Chief Scorekeeper and be
given a container in which their chili will be collected at the time of the official judging. Each
contestant should verify that the number on the bottom of their container is the same as their
contestants number assigned to them by the Chief Scorekeeper.
6. The decision of the judges is final. Judging will be based on scorecards, which are numbered.
Judging Each chili is to be judged on the following criteria to arrive at a whole-number score for
each category of 0 to 10, with 10 being the highest. The chili will be blind judged (no one knows
the identity of the cook) scorecards will be based on the following five characteristics:
1. Color: Does the chili look appetizing? Does it look bright and colorful or dull and bland?
2. Aroma: Does it smell good? Does the aroma make you want to dig in?
3. Consistency: It shouldn't be runny, mushy or overly thick.

4. Taste: How is the flavor? Do the ingredients blend well. Does the first bite make you want
another one?
5. Aftertaste: Is there a spicy taste ("bite") that stays on your tongue? Is it pleasant?
There will be a Peoples Choice ballot box for people to score the chili
Best team name and Best Decorated Table will be selected by guest judges.
