COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a course investigating the physical sciences. There are two major sections; the first of the
categories is introductory chemistry which will be covered during the first quarter. The second
section is introductory physics, which will be studied throughout the second semester. Learning
takes place via labs, demonstrations, direct instruction, reading, and writing.
MATERIALS
Required Supplies:
Paper notebook and folder (or binder) specifically for this class.
Coloring pencils or markers
Pencils and/or Pens
A roll of paper towels
RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
1. Arrive on time, prepared to learn. This includes being mentally ready and equipped with the
correct materials.
2. Never prevent others from learning. This includes but is not limited to inappropriate behavior
and talking.
3. Always follow safety rules during lab and group activities.
4. Food is not allowed in our classroom, and you will be asked to immediately throw away any
food that is seen out. You may have drinks as long as it has a sealable lid.

other electronics is visible, then I should take it and turn it into the office.
6. Pick up after yourself at the end of class.
CLASSROOM CONSEQUENCES
Any rule or expectation that is not followed will result in a warning for the first offense.
The second offense will result in a detention and a parent contact.
Any behavior that needs to be addressed by our schools administrative will be taken care of
promptly and immediately, possibly with or without a warning.
TARDY POLICY
Missing class by being late causes you to miss valuable information. White House Heritage High
Schools attendance/tardy policy will be enforced. You must be IN THE ROOM and SEATED by the
final bell tone. Consequences per quarter for being tardy are as follows:
1st offense = verbal warning
2nd offense = 30 minute detention
3rd or more offenses = 1 hour detention
ABSENCES
After returning from an excused absence, you will be given three days to make up any missed
work for full credit. All assignments will be placed in a binder located under the Assignment
bulletin board. IT IS YOUR RESPSONSIBILTY (NOT YOUR TEACHERS) TO COLLECT YOUR MISSING
ASSIGNMENTS. Any work turned in after the three day period will have a small amount of points
deducted from the assignment. You may turn in late work up until the unit/chapter test.
An unexcused absence will result in a 0 for any assignments given during the absence. Test and
quizzes that are missed due to an unexcused absence cannot be made up.
If you anticipate being absent, please check my website where lesson plans for your class are
updated on a weekly basis.

HALL PASSES
You will receive 2 hall passes per 9 weeks that will be monitored by your teacher. You may use
these to visit the restroom, front office, counselor, etc. If you use all of your hall passes and you
need to leave the classroom for any reason, a detention will be given. No extra credit can or will
be given for remaining hall passes.
GRADING
Your grade in this class is broken down as follows:
1. 20% Midterm or Final Exam
2. 30% Chapter/Unit Tests
*Your lowest Chapter/Unit Test can be replaced with a Midterm/Final Test if it is
higher*
3. 30% Formative Work (Includes daily work, notebook checks, homework, bell ringers,
etc.)
4. 10% Quizzes
5. 10% Labs and Group Activities
CHEATING
Cheating on any assignment, test, etc. is forbidden. If you cheat on an assignment, you will be
