The definition of teaching, evaluation, assessment, and testing

Teaching can be meant as a set of activities that provide education to others.
Here, teacher choose and apply several strategies that can be used to reach
both of teacher and student objectives. In selecting strategies, a good
teachers always focus on their students need. It can be said that there is no
the best strategies in teaching, but the exist one is how to choose the most
appropriate

strategies

depend

on

our

students

need,

characteristic,

background, etc.
In line with that, Suherdi (2012, p. 184-225) says that there are two
approaches in teaching, the first is religious approach, and the second is
affectionate interaction approach. In religious approach, he states that in
teaching, teachers have to be Amanah, Rahmah, Taadubah, and sillah. In
affectionate interaction approach, he says that teacher have to delivered
language model, develop learning activity, develop the communication
practice, and develop the communication project.
In the process of teaching and learning there is evaluation. Evaluation is a
part of teaching process that focus on gathering the information that will be
useful not only for the teacher but for all people that being part of the
teaching process.

The purpose of evaluation are to make changes, to

innovate, and to confirm.

Besides that, there is assessment in teaching and learning process.
Assessment is related more specifically to the students and the group of
methods that are used to judge their performance.

Beside evaluation and assessment, in teaching and learning process also use
Testing as procedures that can be used to assess students performance. For
example, in testing students understanding about reading, teachers can
conduct a set of multiple choice test.
In line with the statements above, the definition of evaluation, assessment
and test, (Today Online, 2014 september 17) states that evaluation is the
most general of the three concept including assessment as one of the
procedures to gather the information that will be used in the evaluation, and
testing is part of assessment which are consisted of many instruments that
teacher can use to asses students performance.
Assessment in the current curriculum
Core competences
The objectives of curriculum 2013 is to prepare Indonesian people
religiously, productively, innovatively, and affectively in acquiring life skills
not only as an individual but also as civilization and have ability to contribute
in the civilization (Is, p. 10). Based on that statement the main focus in
curriculum 2013 to make the students acquire life skills, beside that they
also must have a good character. Have an ability is not enough in curriculum
2013, in the end they must have an ability to communicate everything that
they have learned. So in the end they will give positive contribution for
Indonesia also for the whole world is a world civilization.
In supporting that objectives, curriculum experts conduct core competences
that cover the whole aspects of teaching and learning. Core competences are
designed into four categories that each category is related to others. The
first category is focus on religion, the second is focus on social, the third is
focus on knowledge, and the last category is about applying the knowledge.
HAI assessment in evaluation

Related to the core competences in curriculum 2013 that focus on religion,

social, knowledge, applying the knowledge, the assessment of teaching and
learning must be made based on those aspects. Here Suherdi (2012, p. 269)
says that to reach the real ability we need to assess our students
authentically, in the other hand, the integration in reaching that ability also
force the teachers to assess holistically and integrative. In authentic
assessment, the assessment must be appropriated with what they learned.
For example when teachers want to know about students ability in writing so
the test must be in writing form. The holistic assessment means that teacher
must assess the whole aspects of the students. For example, when teachers
assess the students speaking ability, teachers also have to assess students
attitude when he or she present their speech. In the other hand, teacher
have to assess not only students cognitive but also teachers have to assess
students affective and psychomotor. The last is integrative assessment which
is meant that in assessing students ability the assessment must be arranged
correctly. For example, after teachers assess students speaking ability
(introducing our self) the nearest assessment that have to be conducted is
introducing others. So the process of understanding and acquiring the ability
will be easier because they start from the easiest one to the hardest one.
