DIGIPAK INFLUENCE
Mumford and Sons have a theme with their album that relates to the style of music
videos they create. The front cover of the album visualises four men holding instruments
in what looks to be a shop window. The instruments that they are holding are not
instruments that you would associate with popular music, they are very genre specific
for example, the banjo, accordion and the double bass, are not typical instruments in a
pop song. The front cover appears bright and the location that the image has been
taken at is typical of the indie genre as you would not see this type of image on a hip
hop or rap cover. This makes the band seem more localised and humble. They have
used a similar setting with their other album Babel by having a village type
surrounding.
The back of the case is simplistic with just an image of a window and the song names
written underneath. By using black text against a white background, this allows the text
to stand out more against the brightness of the background colour. The track list is
centred on the back of the album cover, which is a common feature.
The middle sections of the digipak are white with a small logo printed in the centre,
keeping the theme plain and understated. The image in the centre portrays the four
band members, standing or sitting in various different poses. Finally the CD is plain
black, with a simple white sans serif typography that states the bands name and the
album title.
This poster shows a very distinctive image of the band and its tour name.
This is styled in white capital text with a triangle symbol to represent the
letter A. This was Bastilles unique way to identify them as a band. This
also link in with alternatives music genres quirky and original take on
music. The image in the background is of car headlights beaming as it is
placed on a road. This is an unusual image to have as the picture on their
poster. Again this creates a unique style for the genre. The layout is
simple with title and tour name at the top and tour dates and social
media information at the bottom. You cannot see and image of the band
on this poster which I common for alternative bands as they tend to use
orange and brown colours. You can clearly see a website address for the
band with social media links to Facebook and Twitter. This represents the
mass audience that the genre reaches out too and the bands method to
gain publicity for their work.
