Group 9 Wheels

The vehicle is equipped with six wheel speed

sensors one for each wheel on the three rear
axles.
The wheel speed sensor records the speed of
the relevant wheel and sends the signal to the
ABS control unit. The pulse wheel is designed
so that a magnetic flux is created in the wheel
speed sensor when the wheel rotates. The
magnetic flux generates a frequency which the
control unit uses to calculate the rotational
speed of the wheel.

Group 10 Brakes
ABS control valves
The vehicle is equipped with six ABS control
valves one for each wheel on the three rear
axles. The control valves adjust the air pressure
to brake cylinders during ABS control.
The control valves have three control
functions:

Pressure increase (normal mode): Inlet

open and exhaust closed.

Pressure drop: Inlet closed and exhaust

open.

Pressure retention: Inlet and exhaust

closed.

The control unit activates the function of the

control valves as necessary:

For ABS control, the control unit uses the

control valves to prevent the wheels from
locking.

During TC modulation, the ABS control

unit uses the control valves to apply brake
pressure to the driving wheel that is
slipping.

During EBL modulation, the ABS control

unit uses the control valves to adapt the
pressure in the rear brake circuit to the load
of the vehicle.

Fault messages in the instrument

cluster
Serious faults are indicated via a short acoustic
signal and a message in the display when
driving with blackout lighting.
To view messages in the display without
deactivating blackout lighting, a torch or the
like can be used to light up the display.
All warnings that are notified via an acoustic
signal when driving with blackout lighting are
serious and mean that you should stop the
vehicle as soon as possible.
Warnings and messages will remain until you
acknowledge them.
The following warnings are indicated via a
short acoustic signal when driving with
blackout lighting:

10

Engine malfunction

High engine coolant temperature

Low engine oil pressure

EBS fault on trailer

Low brake pressure on trailer

Coordinator malfunction

High oil temperature in torque converter

ECU communication fault

EBS fault on tractor

Brake pressure low

Tilting the cab

The tool kit contains a special tool for setting
the cab tilt pump valve.
Note: Do not tilt the cab if the vehicle bumper
is removed or if the underlying surface slopes
more than 10%.
Procedure
1 Open the upper front grille panel and take
out the cab tilting handle bar.
Leave the front grille panel open.
For more information on the front grile
panel, refer to Scania Multi 18-05 Front
grille panel, bonnet.
2 Apply the parking brake.
3 Put the gear lever in the neutral position.
4 Make sure there are no loose objects in the
cab and close the cab doors.

5 Insert the spcial tool in the hole with the
pump valve rotary control and set the pump
valve to the cab tilting position.

8 Start pumping (3).
The cab lock opens automatically. Make
sure that the cab lock is fully open before
full pump pressure is reached.
Pump the handle bar up and down parallel
to the length of the vehicle.
9 Pump up the cab all the way until it falls
forward under its own weight. Continue
pumping to the upper end position, where
resistance increases in the pump rod.

Lowering the cab

1 Remove the cab strut.
Pump up the cab slightly to ease removal
of the cab strut pin.
2 Insert the spcial tool in the hole with the
pump valve rotary control and set the pump
valve to the cab lowering position.
3 Put the adapter on the pump pin (1).
4 Put the handle bar and the adapter together
(2).
5 Start pumping (3).
Pump the handle bar up and down parallel
to the length of the vehicle.
6 Pump until the cab falls into place under its
own weight. Because the cab falls into
position, it is locked into the cab
mountings.
