ST-80 Set-up Instructions for System Pressure Setting

To Ensure Proper System Pressure Setting to Prevent Damage to ST-80 or
Drill Pipe / Drill Collar

The ST-80 system pressure should be set at 2050 - 2100 PSI.


NOTE: This setting applies for all new built ST-80s and ST-80s that have the jaws upgraded to
Drawing No. 30172491. ST-80s not upgraded are to remain set at 1900 1950 PSI.
Adjustment Procedure:
1) Remove hydraulic shut-off valve Handle and the guard located on the top of the Support Column.
Re-attach the shut-off valve Handle. (only Gen 3)
2) Attach pressure gauge to test port LC on the Main Manifold located above the Wrench Assembly.
Refer to Figure 1.
3) Clamp the ST-80 using the wrench controls (it is not necessary to have pipe in jaws), and read
pressure on gauge attached to LC.
4) Adjust pressure by turning the adjustment screw on the PRV located on the top of the Support
Column, behind the Hydraulic Filter. Have one man hold the Clamp Lever engaged while another
adjusts the pressure.
5) Tighten the lock nut on the PRV and verify pressure per step 4.
6) Re-install the Guard on the top of the Support Column. (only Gen 3)

Frequency of Verification:
Verify the system pressure adjustment at the beginning of each well.
Consequences of Improperly Adjusted ST-80:
1) Reduced Wrench life will result from excessive pressure setting
2) Pipe and die damage, and insufficient torque capacity can result from insufficient pressure setting
This product bulletin should be posted in a conspicuous location on the rig floor and placed in
the PRODUCT BULLETIN section of your ST-80 Service Manual.
