Why has the English department chosen to analyze Night?

In my opinion, the major reason on why the English dept. has chosen Elie Wiesels Night is the
fact that the novel is a significant tool to expose the extremities of life while doing this with use
of an extensive range of linguistic skills. Therefore, as the purpose of the English dept. is to
analyze a book, the fruitful content of the book proves feasible to analyze it in full proportion. In
contrast to other books Night is a fountain of emotions that derive from a real-life experience. At
the same time the book carries a consequential moral that every human being should learn about.
These qualities enhance the overall values and our gain of information form the book is
increased. When reading Night, one gets a chance to master history with the narration of a story.
Besides this, the book has major connections to the ideals of the IDU and its topic peace &
conflict. Yet almost anything in the book is an extremity of life. This is an adequate way to warn
students how undesirable life could get. In addition to that, the book enforces students to become
active citizens to not let history repeat it self as they are the ones responsible of our future.
Another factor that proves this book to be the choice of the English dept. is the fact that it is a
great source to come across the use of new stylistic features. During the descriptive scene of the
arrival to Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel has authored an award-winning poem and hes fitted this in
superbly into the flow of the story. There are many other examples of the successful use of
stylistic features. To sum up my points, it can be said that Night has been the choice of the
English dept. for two reasons. The first reason is that the book is a must-read for any English A
student and having said this, the second reason is the fact that the book is extremely rich with its
use of stylistic features. Lastly there are other factors as well. Considering our unit in English,
the values of the book remain very relevant to the unit and act as great material to teach students
about the atmosphere of conflict. On the other hand, the book caries a priceless message and as
Elie Wiesel said its written to warn future generations. The message of this book is something
that all UWC students should keep in their minds; obtaining global peace. Students who read this
book will notice the vulnerability of peace and that its the perpetual right of every human being.
Considering all these factors there is no reason left while this book shouldnt be chosen to read.
