Music Through The

Ages
The Evolution of Music through
time

From then, to now.

Over the ages music has changed dramatically, from violins to DJs the
limits of music have evolved and expanded!
With the creation of electric technology for recording and editing,
ideas that were once thought to be impossible have been achieved.

How Did It All Begin?

It is tough to exactly determine when music was first
created, almost impossible really.
The earliest examples of music come from cave
paintings and religious texts, usually singing and
simple things such as stomping your foot and
clapping.

What Has Changed?

Over the years, music has changed in many ways, such as:
1. Many different styles have arisen, such as Jazz, Rock, and Pop.
2. More modern music from the late 1900 to now is losing the organic
feeling, with electric keyboards, guitars and drums.
3. The accuracy of music has changed, because with today's
technology it makes it easy to edit and improve songs, making
each note as accurate as can be.

Instruments Through Time

Something that almost always accompanies music; Instruments.
Over the years instruments have changed and been improved,
beginning with percussion instruments such as sticks over one
hundred and sixty thousand years ago.
Flutes were created around fifty thousand years ago, then around
thirty seven years ago, drums were brought into the picture.

Who can make music?

Over time and in more recent years especially, music has become
easier to access with school music programs and private lessons.
Before public music lessons were introduced, you could only learn by
teaching yourself or learning from another privately, which may be
expensive and inconvenient.

Bards and musicians.

In the past there have been many famous musicians, but becoming
famous through music wasnt always easy.
In some eras such as the Baroque period musicians had tough lives,
and their employers had high expectations for everything.
The conductor of musical groups was tasked with composing music
and disciplining his musicians, now that may be the same today, but
not at such an important level

The Music Industry

Music is also a business, with producers and agents. Music was never
as big as it is today, there are millions of dollars being made through
music, with recordings and concerts.
In history, in almost every time period there were performers and a
music industry, but the life of a musician was not easy, with traveling
and finding jobs, it was not a stable way of life.

The Music Industry (Continued)

The way music is sold has also changed, with records and cassettes
becoming obsolete with the new electronic technology.

Famous Names In Music

Some Famous Musicians through time include:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Johannes Sebastian Bach, a famous composer and musician (1685-1750)

The Rolling Stones, a famous band (1962-Present)

Recorded Music
This change may only affect the past few years, from about 1860 to the
present. Music can be recorded and sold with cassettes, records, CDs
and now digital formats. However, the record and cassette industry is
slowing down and may fade into the past.
Recorded music changed the music industry, making it possible to sell
songs to people in the masses without having to be there, and opening
a whole new world to performers.

Music In The Future

I believe that in the future, that electronics will become one of the
biggest players in the creation of music, and that more genres like Rap
and alternative will become more popular due to their appeal to the
younger audiences such as teenagers.
