The outstanding feature of this

embroidery is the fact that it is made


with single threads resulting in a flat,
formalized appearance to the design .
The stitches used in Kashida
embroidery are very simple and
include;

1. SATIN STITCH
The satin stitchused to cover
large surfaces
without pulling
or puckering
the cloth in any
way.

STEM STITCH

The stem
stitch is
used only on
boundary of
the motif.

3.

CHAIN STITCH

The chain stitch


is
used mostly on
inferior pieces
and rarely on an
expensive piece
of work.

4. DARNING
STITCH

MOTIFS USED

Owing to the presence of picturesque


surroundings majority of the motifs
are inspired by nature however , new
designs have been continuously
added depending on the fashion
trends and consumer demands.

Method used
The Procedure of tracing isas
followsFabric is spread on a flat
surface. The perforated design
sheet is placed over the fabric.
The charcoal or chalkpowder
is rubbed overit, whichleaves
the impression over the fabric.
To make thetracings durable,
gum Arabic is added to
thepowder. The traced design
is outlined with a pen called
Kalam.
The Naquashbandi is also a
hereditary profession carried
from onegeneration to another
in Srinagar
