Welcome to Honors Math 2!
It is imperative that each student and parent understand the behavioral/academic expectations and
requirements of this course.
My goal is that each student will not only learn mathematics but they will also learn how to think critically
and solve problems. The logical thinking and reasoning skills that they learn in the context of solving mathematics
problems will serve them well in many situations in life. I will strive to create a classroom where students feel
safe sharing ideas, asking questions, taking risks, and making mistakes. I believe that all students can be
successful in mathematics and I am committed to doing all that I can to ensure that success for all students.

Expectations:
Advocate for yourself. Participate
in class. Ask questions if you need
to clarify understanding. Ask for
help when you need it.
Govern yourselves according to the
rules in the student handbook
Respect the rights of your classmates
and the teacher so that the best
possible learning environment is
maintained at all times; private
conversations, note writing, sleeping,
and other disruptive behaviors will
NOT be permitted.
All cell phones and electronic
devices must be off and out of
sight. School policy states that any
device possessed or used in violation
of this policy shall be confiscated
and only returned to the students
parent/guardian.
Attend class daily and arrive on
time! (in your seat when the bell
rings, prepared with materials).
Listen and follow ALL directions.
All assignments, quizzes, and tests
MUST be done in pencil.
Do your housekeeping (sharpening
pencils, throwing away trash, etc.)
either before class begins or after
class is dismissed.
If you need to leave the classroom
for any reason you MUST ask
permission. A request to leave the
classroom should be made only if
absolutely necessary. Use good
judgment in deciding why and when
to ask permission.

Homework:

Homework grades are assigned according to the amount of

the assignment completed. Occasionally, they may be
graded.
Homework answers with NO work will receive NO credit!
I dont know, IDK, and other similar answers are
NOT acceptable. You must EXPLAIN what you dont
understand. Begin with what you DO know and lead into
what you dont.
It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to CHECK your
homework answers each day and CORRECT your
mistakes in a different color pen or pencil. If you still
have questions, ask your teacher in class.
Failure to complete homework may result in FAILING
this class.

Preparations and Materials:

Students will need the following things each day in class
It is your responsibility to print and bring the packet for the
current unit each day to class. The packets are available for
printing from the course website. If you have any issues
with printing for yourself you must have a parent send an
email to me ASAP.
Notebook paper, graph paper, no.2 pencils, and colored
pencils.
Calculator TI-83 or higher (Teacher will use TI-83/84 in
class for demonstrations. Student will be responsible for
knowing how to use his/her calculator.)
Each student needs his/her own graphing calculator. Many
of the homework assignments require the use of a graphing
calculator. Students may NOT use the lack of a calculator
as an excuse for an incomplete homework assignment.
Please see me if you are unable to purchase/borrow one for
daily use for the duration of this course.
Positive learning attitude!

Course Topics:
Tools of Geometry,
Modeling with Quadratic Functions,
Modeling with Advanced Functions,
Modeling with Exponential Functions,
Modeling with Trigonometric Functions,
Probability

Prevention/Intervention:
Your teacher offers help outside of class instruction.
Please access your class resources and/or speak with
her/him to arrange help.
Your teacher understands that situations arise where you
may not always do your best on a quiz. As a result, your
lowest quiz grade will be dropped once per quarter.
Because this is an Honors level class, you may not retake
a quiz or test.
Assessment/Assignment modifications (extended time,
separate setting, modified assignments, etc.) will be
provided to students who qualify and make arrangements
prior to beginning the assessment/assignment.
The math department does not assign extra credit
assignments.
