National
What Day?

Why is Breanna Barstads

dog Remmie wearing an Olaf
costume? Thats because
today, January 14th, is
National Dress Up Your Pet
Day! Dress Up Your Pet Day
was founded back in 2009 by
Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert
and Animal Advocate Colleen
Paige, also the founder
of National Dog Day and
National Cat Day. Dress Up
Your Pet Day is meant to be a
fun day that gives pets a little
more attention and another
way to promote pet adoption.
I realize that there are many
people who are excited about
this day and some others, not
so much. The one thing that I
feel important to note is that as
silly as this day may seem to
some, all of my holidays have
the underlying goal to help
save lives and give homeless
animals as much exposure
as possible. Breanna and
Remmie, a Border Collie
Great Pyrenees mix, were
certainly enjoying Dress Up
Your Pet Day!

Andy was recently nominated in four categories
for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor,

We look forward to our 2016 as Andy brings his

Mary Poppins, and The Woman in Black.

The Fort Peck Summer Theatre will be celebrating
its 47th Season this summer and we are so excited to
have Andy at the helm once again.

In addition to all of the summer work Andy does
for us, he will be back again this winter to present a

along with Pam Veis, Jay Michael Roberts, and
Syndey Hayward on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the
Cottonwood Inn and Saturday, February 27, 2016 at

but just to let you know
I had won.

A man sees his dog chew

up and swallow a pencil.
Concerned, he immediately
phones the vet.

Doc, my dog just
chewed up and swallowed
my pencil! What should I do?
Hmm...that sounds serious.
You better bring him out. Ill
see you within a half hour.

Yeah, Doc, but what
should I do in the meantime?

Use a pen.

BLM exceeded its authority when it approved bison grazing

In a formal protest submitted yesterday to the
Malta, Montana, field office of the Bureau of Land
Management (BLM), R-CALF USA asserts the agency
overstepped its authority.
On December 28 the BLM provided notice of its
proposed decision to allow the American Prairie Reserve
(APR) to graze bison on the Flat Creek Allotment
located in Phillips County, Montana. Currently, the
grazing permit for the allotment designates cattle as the
approved species.
In addition to allowing the APR to graze bison,
the BLM also proposed to allow the APR to remove all
interior fences within the allotment and to allow year
around grazing.
R-CALF USA states that information contained
in the American Prairie Reserves Website reveals that
its purpose is to maintain a fully-functioning prairiebased wildlife reserve, and it intends to combine both
private and public lands for that purpose.

According to the BLM notice, the decision to grant
APRs entire request would become final unless the
agency receives a written protest.
R-CALF USAs protest points out that BLM
regulations exclude bison from the list of animals
eligible to be included as livestock on BLM grazing

permits. Only cattle, sheep, horses, burros and goats are

listed as species considered livestock.
The group also states that the American Prairie
Reserves stated goals clearly indicate it does not intend
to maintain its bison as if they were livestock. Instead, it
intends to maintain its bison as wildlife.

The group contends the BLM has no authority
to approve grazing permits for wildlife or for the
purpose of establishing wildlife reserves.

It is clear the Proposed Decision exceeds the BLMs
scope of the authority to manage livestock grazing on
federally-controlled lands, the group wrote.
The group also asserts that managing wildlife
contradicts the BLMs regulatory objective of sustaining
the western livestock industry. It also states the BLMs
proposal to remove all interior fences contradicts
best rangeland management practices, particularly
rotational grazing.

R-CALF USA believes the BLMs Proposed Decision
is contrary to the BLMs stated objective of promoting the
improvement of rangeland ecosystems for the purpose of
sustaining the western livestock industry.
Instead, the Proposed Decision constitutes
defiance of the agencys stated objectives and will
facilitate the demise of the western livestock industry
by removing rangeland ideally suited for livestock
enterprises from the purview of the Phillips County,
Montana, livestock industry, concluded the protest.

R-CALF USA (Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal
Fund, United Stockgrowers of America) is the largest
producer-only cattle trade association in the United
States. It is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated
to ensuring the continued profitability and viability of the
U.S. cattle industry. For more information, visit www.rcalfusa.com or, call 406-252-2516.

The Free Stuff

The folks who are getting the free stuff, dont like
the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the
folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer
afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

The folks who are paying for the free stuff want the
free stuff to stop, and the folks who are getting the free
stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff
they are already getting!

Now... The people who are forcing the people who
pay for the free stuff have told the people who are
RECEIVING the free stuff, that the people who are
PAYING for the free stuff, are being mean, prejudiced,
and racist.

So... The people who are GETTING the free stuff
have been convinced they need to hate the people
who are paying for the free stuff by the people who
are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff, and
giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long
that there are now more people getting free stuff than
paying for the free stuff.

Failure to change this spells the end of the United
States as we know it.

Almost as good as real apple pie

So I stopped at Western Drug to pick up some

cough drops and asked Mary what she suggested.

Im sucking on one of these right now, she said,
here, try one, and handed me a Smith Bros Warm
Apple Pie flavor with cinnamon flavor beads.

Wow, these are good, Mary!

Its sometimes fun just to read whats on the package
(not the ingredients, who cares what theyre made of if
they work and they taste good).

SB

It all started on one particularly cold, bitter
winters day in 1847 in the windswept Hudson Valley.
Sly Hawkins, a traveling peddler, walked into the James
Smith & Sons Sweet Shop with his secret formula
cough relief.
After purchasing the formula, and much stirring,
mixing and tinkering, William and Andrew Smith
added some delicious flavors from the sweet shops
inventory, and the first Smith Brothers Drop was
born!

To this very day, Smith Brothers continues to be
one of the worlds most beloved cough remedies, and the
trademark continues to stand for pioneering innovation
in over-the-counter family wellness.
These delicious-tasting warm apple pie warming
throat drops have been specially formulated to provide
fast-acting relief for coughs and sore throats.

Montana graduation rates on the rise

Superintendent
of
Public
Instruction Denise Juneau announced
Wednesday that more Montana high
school students are graduating than
ever before, setting those students up
for success as they take their next steps
in life and adding tangible benefits to
Montanas economy.
Montanas
2015
Graduation
and Dropout Report finds the states
graduation rate has increased to 86
percent, breaking the previous record
of 85.4 percent. Montanas dropout rate
has been cut by more than a third since
2009.

Im proud to say the communitybuilding work of Graduation Matters
Montana is making a difference, Juneau
said. Now, 53 Montana communities
place an emphasis on the importance
of graduating from high school and
its clear that students across this state
understand that a diploma is their key
to a successful future.
Glasgow High School saw its
graduation rate incrase from 86% in
2010/2011 all the way to 92.5% in
2014/2015.

Over the last seven years, Montanas
dropout rate has declined from 5
percent to 3.4 percent, resulting in 851
fewer dropouts in 2015 compared to
2009.
Data shows high school seniors
are far more likely to drop out of
school than freshmen, and males are
more likely to drop out than females.
Its also true that low-income and
American Indian students are more
likely to drop out.

The number of American Indian
students dropping out of school is
still too high, but we have made great
strides in decreasing that number,
Juneau said. The number of American
Indian students dropping out of high

school has declined by nearly a third

since 2008. We are on the right path to
continue that progress.

According analysis by the Alliance
for Excellent Education, Montana is
likely to see significant economic gains
as a result of more students graduating
from high school. The Alliance
estimates Montana will see a $6 million
annual boost to the states economy
because 540 more students graduated
in 2015 than in 2009. Those graduates
will contribute an additional $10.3
million in spending on homes, and a
$700,000 increase in car sales.
I often tell people the most
important piece of paper I ever
received was my Browning High School
diploma, Juneau said, because when
Montana students succeed, each and
every one of us benefits.

2015 Graduation and

Dropout Report Quick Facts
Montanas 2015 graduation rate
was 86 percent, the highest its ever
been since the Office of Public
Instruction began calculating the
rate in 2000.
Montanas 2015 dropout rate was
3.4 percent, declining more than
one-third since 2009.
The share of American Indian
students dropping out of high
school has declined by nearly onethird since 2009.
More than 11,000 Montana students
have taken the pledge to graduate
from high school.
53 Montana communities are part
of Graduation Matters Montana.
Private businesses and foundations
have donated more than $1.3
million to the Graduation Matters
Montana effort since it launched in
2010.
