1. In trapezoid ABCD, the bases AB and CD are 8.2cm, 14.8cm respectively. MN is drawn parallel to the
bases such that
a. The length of MN
b. Are the three trapezoids depicted below similar? Explain.
c. The area of trapezoid ABNM
3. The following figure depicts the aerial view of the flat roof of a high-rise. The polygon on the bottom
left corner is a regular octagon centered at O, of radius (center to vertex) 3ft. Arc AB is part of a circle of
radius 16ft 6in; the arc digresses from the right side of the original rectangle by a maximum of 2ft
(h=2ft). Given the dimensions on the drawing determine
The perimeter (the measure around the outside) of the roof in ft-in format correct to the nearest whole
inch
4. The cross-hip roof depicted bellow is made up of six pieces. The pitch and the dimensions of some
pieces are given.
Determine the actual area of the roof. Ans: 346.2m2
5. The actual area of the following hip roof is 312.4124877m2. All of the roof surfaces have the same
pitch: 7:4. The width of the Eave is 10m. Determine the length of the eave. Ans: 15.5m
6. Circles M and N pass through each others centers as shown, forming a gothic window. The only
known length in the drawing is the radius, AB, which is equal to 8m. Find
a) The area of the window
b) The area of the inscribed circle.
7. The following diagram depicts the cross-section of a two-track railway tunnel according to the manual
of the American Railway Association. For air conditioning and air circulation purposes, we need to
determine the volume of the tunnel. If the tunnel runs for 1.2 kilometers, how many cubic meters of air
does it contain?
1 meter = 3.281 feet
8. The UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France is a building whose top view is shown in the picture.
Consider the dimensions given in the shape, also we know that the building is a prism (same crosssection all along the height) of height 54m. Determine the volume and the lateral area of the building.
We know that the points B,H,G,E are on the same line (same applies to E,R,P as well as B,C,Q,P) 1.

10. A cylinder of radius 12cm, and height 15cm undergoes two axial cuts such that the following solid is
obtained. If the central top and bottom angles are 47, determine the total area and the volume of the
solid. Ans: area=625.8cm2 Volume=885.9cm3
