HUMAN
BODY

EYE

The eye has many parts

that must work together
to produce clear vision:
The sclera, or white part
of the eye, protects the
eyeball. The pupil, or
black dot at the centre of
the eye, is a hole
through which light can
enter the eye. The iris,
or colored part of the
eye, surrounds the pupil.

EYE DISEASES

Cataracts - clouded lenses

Glaucoma - a disorder caused by damage
to the optic nerve
Retinal disorders - problems with the nerve
layer at the back of the eye
Macular degeneration - a disease that
destroys sharp, central vision
Diabetic eye problems
Conjunctivitis - an infection also known as
pinkeye
Glaucoma - a disorder caused by damage
to the optic nerve

EYE DISEASES TREATMENTS

Quit Smoking
Get Regular Eye Exams
Control Blood Sugar
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Take "Eye Breaks

BRAIN

The cerebellum is below

and behind the cerebrum
and is attached to the
brain stem. It controls
motor function, the
body's ability to balance,
and its ability to interpret
information sent to the
brain by the eyes, ears,
and other sensory
organs.

BRAIN DISEASES

Phenylketonuria (PKU) :is

a genetic disorder in which
the body can't process a
protein called
phenylalanine (Phe). It
causes intellectual
disability.
Alzheimer's disease: most
common form of dementia
among older people.

BRAIN DISEASES TREATMENTS

Regular exercise
Healthy diet
Mental stimulation
Quality sleep
Stress management
An active social life

LUNGS

The lungs' main function

is to help oxygen from the
air we breathe enter the
red cells in the blood.
Red blood cells then
carry oxygen around the
body to be used in the
cells found in our body.
The lungs also help the
body to get rid of CO2
gas when we breathe out.

LUNGS DISEASES

Asthma: The airways are

persistently inflamed, and may
occasionally spasm, causing
wheezing and shortness of
breath.
Cystic fibrosis: A genetic
condition causing poor
clearance of mucus from the
bronchi

LUNGS DISEASES
TREATMENTS
Stay active
Eat plenty of fruit and
veggies
Breathe deeply
Don't smoke

HEART

The heart functions as a

pump in the circulatory
system to provide a
continuous circulation of
blood throughout the
body. This circulation
consists of the systemic
circulation to and from
the body and the
pulmonary circulation to
and from the lungs.

HEART DISEASES

Ischemic heart disease: Heart

ailments caused by narrowing of
the coronary arteries and
therefore a decreased blood
supply to the heart.
Rheumatic heart disease:
damage caused to the hearts
valves by rheumatic fever,
which is caused by
streptococcal bacteria.

HEART DISEASES
TREATMENTS
Do not smoke.
See your health care provider regularly. Ask
your physician about vitamin supplements
that may help prevent heart disease.
Eat a well-balanced, low-fat, low-cholesterol
diet that includes several servings of fruits
and vegetables daily.
Exercise regularly. Short, frequent sessions
of exercise are preferable to a complete
sedentary lifestyle.
Control blood pressure.
Maintain weight appropriate for your frame
and build.
Manage stress.

STOMACH

The stomach secretes acid

and enzymes that digest
food. Ridges of muscle
tissue called rugae line the
stomach. The stomach
muscles contract
periodically, churning food to
enhance digestion. The
pyloric sphincter is a
muscular valve that opens to
allow food to pass from the
stomach to the small
intestine.

STOMACH DISEASES
-Gastric cancer, also
known as gastric
carcinoma, is a
cancer that starts in
the stomach.
Gastritis occurs
when the lining of the
stomach becomes
inflamed or swollen.

STOMACH DISEASES
TREATMENTS
Drink the Right
Fluids
Eat the Right Food,
Rest, Medications.

LIVER

The liver filters and processes

blood as it circulates through
the body. It metabolizes
nutrients, detoxifies harmful
substances, makes blood
clotting proteins, and
performs many other vital
functions. The cells in the
liver contain proteins called
enzymes that drive these
chemical reactions.

LIVER DISEASES

Cirrhosis: scarring of the

liver. Scar tissue forms
because of injury or longterm disease. Scar tissue
cannot make protein, help
fight infections, clean the
blood, help digest food
and store energy.
-Hepatitis is an
inflammation of the liver..

LIVER DISEASES
TREATMENTS

-Drink alcohol in
moderation, Avoid risky
behavior, Get
vaccinated, Use
medications wisely,
Avoid contact with other
people's blood and body
fluids, Maintain a healthy
weight.

INTESTINES

Its job is to absorb most of

the nutrients from what we
eat and drink. Velvety
tissue lines the small
intestine, which is divided
into the duodenum,
jejunum, and ileum. The
large intestine (colon or
large bowel) is about 5 feet
long and about 3 inches in
diameter. The colon
absorbs water from
wastes, creating stool.

INTESTINES DISEASES
-Constipation is the difficult
passage of stools (bowel
movements) or the
infrequent/incomplete
passage of stools.
- Irritable bowel syndrome
(also called spastic colon,
irritable colon, or nervous
stomach) is a condition in
which the colon muscle
contracts more readily than
in people without IBS.

INTESTINES DISEASES
TREATMENTS
-Eating a diet high in fiber
-Getting enough exercise
- Not eating large amounts of dairy
products
- Not being stressed -Not overusing
laxatives - Not being stresse
d -Not overusing

laxatives

PANCREAS, SPLEEN, SMALL INTESTINES

Enzymes, or digestive juices,
produced by the pancreas are
secreted into the small intestine to
further break down food after it has
left the stomach. The gland also
produces the hormone insulin and
secretes it into the bloodstream in
order to regulate the body's glucose
or sugar level
The Spleen is an abdominal organ
involved in the production and
removal of blood cells in most
vertebrates and forming part of the
immune system.

PANCREAS, SPLEEN, SMALL INTESTINES

DISEASES

Acute Pancreatitis-Acute
pancreatitis is a sudden attack
causing inflammation of the
pancreas and is usually associated
with severe upper abdominal pain.
Pancreatic Cancer- Pancreatic
cancer is the fourth most common
cause of cancer death in men and
the fifth in women. It accounts for
more than 37,000 new cases per
year in the United States.
Spleen diseases- Various types of
hemolytic anemia a condition
characterized by premature
destruction of red blood cells.

PANCREAS, SPLEEN, SMALL INTESTINES

TREATMENTS
Treatment will depend on the cause
of your pancreatitis, but examples of
treatment may include:
Procedures to remove bile duct
obstructions. ...
Gallbladder surgery. ...
Pancreas surgery. ...
Treatment for alcohol dependence.
Limit any activities that could
rupture your spleen, such as contact
sports.
