1. Computer

Computers are a programmable machine,


that only responds to a well-designed set on
instructions

2. Desktop

Desktops are where all our icons and files are


stored.

3. Icon

A small picture that represents an object or


program.
A special type of file in some operating
systems that points to another file or device.

Taskbar allows you to perform actions such


as switching between files, and starting new
applications.

6. Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a background onto which all our


icons, menus are placed and oved around.

7. Hardware

Computer hardware refers to objects that


you can actually touch, like disks, disk drives,
display screens, keyboards, printers, boards,
and chips.

8. Software

Computer instructions or data. Anything that


can be stored electronically is software. The
storage devices and display devices are
hardware.

9. CPU

CPU is the abbreviation for central processing


unit (the processor). The CPU is the brains of
the computer where most calculations take
place.

Modem

A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a
device or program that enables a computer

to transmit data over, for example,


telephone or cable lines.

Peripheral

Peripherals are computer devices, such as a


CD-ROM drive or printer that is not part of
the essential computer.

Input Device

Any machine that feeds data into a


computer. For example, a keyboard is an
input device, whereas a display monitor is an
output device.

Output Device

Any machine capable of representing


information from a computer. This includes
display screens, printers, plotters, and
synthesizers.

Short for rewritable disk

equal to 8 bits.
