GradingScale
20% of your final grade will be determined by your midterm
and final. After that, all assignments will be assigned a point
value. The total number of points available at the end of the
semester will make up the last 80% of your grade.

IndependentReading
Throughout the semester I will assign independent reading projects. I will provide you with time to
read in class, but you are also expected to read at home. The due dates and requirements of these
independent reading projects will vary, and more information will be provided as the semester
progresses.

Participation
I care what you have to say and I want to know what you are thinking. This class should be a
discussion of new ideas, literature, and writing. To get a good grade in participation you are expected
to bring all the required materials, participate in class, complete your assignments, and show respect

to your classmates and to me. We are a community of learners and I expect us to have a safe
environment. Your participation grade will be reduced if you use your cell phones, iPods, or anything
else distracting in class during inappropriate times.

Dear Parents,
I have exciting learning opportunities coming up soon that will involve web-based tools! I have
chosen to use these tools because they will provide your student the best opportunity to learn the
associated curriculum. Ive listed the web-based tools below as well as my plans for using them.
https://edpuzzle.com/
To provide additional support to students by asking them to view an educational video and
respond to questions about the video topic in order to demonstrate understanding.
Edpuzzle at https://edpuzzle.com/: I am writing this letter to request your permission to share
your student's first name, last name, and student email address with providers of the above
mentioned web-based tool. Additionally, you agree that any content generated by your student
may be shared with others who access the web-based tools. Below are several steps I will take to
protect your student when using web-based tool:

Usernames will be the same as the school division email account when possible.
All videos made available on the website will be previewed and approved by the teacher.
Students are always supervised when using technology services at school.
Students are always directed to age and subject appropriate sites without deceptive or
excessive advertisements.

Below are links to the Terms of Service and/or Privacy Statements for the web-based tool listed
above. Please reach out to me should you have any questions or concerns.

https://edpuzzle.com/privacy

Please sign below indicating that you will allow your student to use the above web-based tools in
my classroom.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Brady
