Wimberley Valley Radio

Turn Your Radio On

Background
Wimberley Valley Radio originally applied to the FCC in 2013 in response to the 2011
Bastrop Fires. The radio station hopes to enhance the lives of the citizens in the
Wimberley area by providing information, entertainment, emergency alerts and a
strong sense of community and promote localism.
The station is currently streaming online through computers or smart phones while it
waits for the FCCs final approval. Residents can learn more about upcoming events,
radio programs, donate and give feedback through the Wimberley Valley Radio
website and Facebook page.

Products and Services

Wimberley Valley Radio is a 501(c)(3) created to serve the Wimberley community both on air and online. After a
flood occurred within the Wimberley community, the storm severed various Internet services within the
community and there was no form of communication available to make the community aware of what was
happening during the flood for approximately three days; this proved that there was a need for a broadcast radio
station within the Wimberley community.
Wimberley Valley Radio offers the community products and services that were not readily available during the
flood. Wimberley Valley Radio provides governmental information and first response to those within the
Wimberley community regarding natural disasters. Wimberley Valley Radio is setup to communicate the services
available and how to obtain those services to those who are in need if a natural disaster were to occur again.
According to Wimberley Valley Radios website, the radio station has applied for a License to Cover, to allow the
radio station to operate as a low power FM broadcasting station. The license is currently pending but the station is
allowed to continue to air until the license is approved.

CLIENT SERVICES

Client Services
Media Relations was the liaison between the class and the client. We communicated with DuAnne almost
every week to let her know what the class was completing and get her feedback.
Our goal for this campaign was to come up with communication tactics the Wimberley Valley Radio team
could use in the following years. We wrote press release templates for possible events, created sponsorship
sheets and planned the annual fundraising event.

Wimberley Valley Radio: Wimberleys Latest Asset Against Disaster
WIMBERLEY, TXKWVH 94.1, more commonly known as Wimberley Valley Radio, has been on the air in Wimberley for more than
two years and is launching a campaign, Turn On Your Radio, to become a strong, informative voice for Wimberley during emergency
situations such as the tragic 2015 Memorial Day floods.
Beyond playing a variety of music and having regular programs like talk shows, Wimberley Valley Radio noticed a gap in coverage of
the situation on the ground during disasters between mainstream media coverage and citizen information sharing, such as posts on
social media. Wimberley Valley Radio plans to fill that gap and be a timely, accurate source for learning the overall situation in
different parts in the Valley, status of (and relaying statements from) emergency services, and where Wimberley residents can go to
help or be helped during these disasters.
Wimberley Valley Radio looks forward to servicing the community we love so much and filling a critical void in dissemination of
emergency information.

Crowdfunding: Turn on the Radio

Use GlobalGiving.Org to create a crowdfunding page that will raise money so that
Wimberley Valley Radio will become a live radio station
The use of crowdfunding is to try and accomplish as many shares and donations
as possible because the more donors there are the faster money will be raised. All
donations for crowdfunding are online and linked to email or social media or
both.
The concept of crowdfunding is that once your campaign has been shared across
the internet your organization will raise small amounts of money from a large
number of people which results in raising a large amount of money.

Raising Community Awareness

To spread awareness to the community we recommend that the Wimberley Valley Radio set up a booth at the
Wimberley High School football games in 2016. Athletic events are a great place to reach out to the faculty and
staff, parents who are interested in community involvement and the student body. High school students are also
a great resource for volunteers for the radio.
In order to set up a booth we would recommend contacting the High School principal, Jason Valentine, and the
Director of Athletics Coach Doug Warren at the beginning of football season. In addition to the booth we
would recommend a radio show host volunteering as a guest commentator at a football game to promote the
radio and spread awareness to the crowd during half time.
To be a guest commentator at a football game contact Coach Doug Warren by phone at 512-847-3211 between
8:30 am and 4 pm or via email at doug.warren@wimberleyisd.net at the beginning of the football season

Annual Event

Audience: Wimberley and surrounding areas, including all of Hays County. All residents including
children.

Strategy: The annual event is a chance for the Wimberley community to come together and enjoy
music and vendor booths. It is also a chance to celebrate the station and what it does for the
community in times of crisis. The goal would be to get musicians and vendors to donate music,
food, and any other service for the event. All participants would be encouraged to give donations
and all proceeds would go to Wimberley Valley Radio. The goal for the first event could help
launch the station, and following years could be to help maintain the station. The goal would be to
