How to Grow From

God's Word

Horton Road Church of Christ

April 11, 2010
Sometimes, we struggle with
reading and obeying
God's word
We must see God's word as
something valuable
God's word confirms us in our faith

“Continue in what you have learned and have

become convinced of....”
(2 Timothy 3:14)
God's word guides us forward

“You have known the Holy Scriptures, which are

able to make you wise for salvation through faith
in Christ Jesus.”
(2 Timothy 3:15)
God's word is trustworthy

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for

teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in
righteousness....”
(2 Timothy 3:16)
We must humbly seek God through
his word
We gain wisdom and love for God
through his word

“Oh, how I love your law! ...

[It makes] me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.”
(Psalm 119:97-99)
We draw closer to God through
his word

“I have not departed from your laws,

for you yourself have taught me.”
(Psalm 119:102)
We learn the right way to live
through his word

“I gain understanding from your precepts;

therefore I hate every wrong path.”
(Psalm 119:104)
We must be moved to action
through God's word
If we read God's word properly,
we will obey it

“I have more understanding than the elders,

for I obey your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.”
(Psalm 119:100-101)
God's word equips us for
every good work

“All Scripture is...useful for teaching, rebuking,

correcting and training in righteousness, so that
all God's people may be thoroughly equipped for
every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:17)
