WHY I CHOSE DALEY WOMENS

SOCCER PROGRAM
It was my second semester at Daley College and I noticed
flyers around campus. Ive always enjoyed playing soccer
and thought it would be amazing if I could play for my
school. With the support of our athletic department and
professors, I would like to show everyone that our team can
make it farther than any other team at Daley.

Realizing I had a chance to continue playing soccer and

advancing my career as a college player was my number one
reason for choosing Daleys soccer program. I became more
influenced to attend Daley as a student-athlete after participating
in the summer camp Coach Rico offered. Coach was very
motivating and he offered me a scholarship, but most
importantly, he was concerned about me getting a college
education.

Daley Highlights
Coach Rico is in his 2nd season at Richard J. Daley College as the Womens head coach.
Rico has implemented a basic infrastructure for the womens soccer program here at
Daley College. By reaching out to local talent at the high school level which is a pertinent
recruiting strategy, he was able to lead his team to the playoffs this season. High points of the
season included a 6-3 victory over Prairie State College. The victory over Prairie State College
granted Rico a place in Daley athletics program history, as he became the first head coach
at Daley College to make it past the first round during regional playoffs. He understands that
in order to continue to build a successful program, reaching out to local high school coaches is
essential to achieving program goals and objectives. Rico believes that Daley is a great option
for their student-athletes to continue a good education and advance their soccer career.
Prior to Daley
Prior to joining Daley athletics program, Rico competed in soccer leagues in the
Chicagoland area. His talents as a player provided an opportunity to compete in nationally
ranked tournaments where he traveled with professional clubs. Rico is no stranger to the
professional sport of soccer. He played for the Chicago Fire Soccer Academy and a professional
soccer leauge in Mexico under the leadership of Gabriel (El Gaby) Garcia, who once was the
leading scorer in the late 1990s for Chivas de Guadalajara. Rico suffered a season ending injury
while in Mexico and returned to begin his coaching career. He has severed as the head coach for
a local soccer club, the Golden Eagles and Latin High School where he coached the mens JV
team. In addition to his current duties at Daley, he is also invloved with youth soccer programs.
He works with the Spain F.C. Barcelona youth summer camp as a member of the staff.
