Message from the President

Hello everyone,

This issue I would like to thank a number of board members

and congregants who have done such an amazing job all year of
keeping this magnificent community running.

We are indebted to our treasurer Ray Lennark, who kept

meticulous records for us for these past few years. A huge thank
you to Laurianne who, as secretary, manages to make sense out
of our meetings, recording coherent minutes that make us look
good! She and Barb manage the library, culling and adding books
as they arrive. Barb also looks after Sisterhood and handles all the
food requirements that arise throughout our liturgical year. Thank
you to Ruth who teaches Hebrew school and manages our website.
Thank you to Sheryl for handling membership and challot.
We thank Harold who has seen to it that we have a new phone,
an answering service, a new vacuum cleaner, and initiated hiring
someone to come in once a week to clean and do busy work in the
shul. Thank you to Perry who gets our much-loved newsletter out
and looks after the archives. Thank you to our Ritual Chair, Ben,
who sets all our times for services, engaged Cantor Bashari for our
upcoming High Holy Day services, and who watches over us all.

And thanks to Myra and Suzanne who organize onegs.

(Remember, we are fewer in number so you will receive more
frequent requests to host an oneg; if you enjoy the camaraderie of
schmoozing after services, please say yes when asked.) A special
thank you to Manny who has been diligent in corresponding with
the city regarding our section at Woodlawn Cemetary.

And finally a heartfelt thank you to Linda who nearly every

Friday evening and Saturday morning conducts services for us. She

also chaired our Holocaust Memorial Service committee and is my

sounding board when I want to yell! And thank you to Hanna who
fills in on Fridays when Linda is not available and who added so
much to our Holocaust Memorial Service with her El Mole.

Thank you to all who contribute to our special events by

bringing food or pitching in to help in any way you can. For you
are the ones who make this congregation function so well and
continue to be the warm and caring community that it is. Each one
of you has a gift to offer, and I thank you for giving so generously.
I still have a couple of items on my bucket list for the coming
year. One is to find a home for the Chumashim in the north tower.
The other is to eliminate all non-biodegradable items in the shul.
Given the state of our province, our country, and the planet, we
have to start somewhere, and it might as well be in our shul. Id
like to begin by eliminating foil and plastic wrap and reduce the
use of paper products, where possible, in order to preserve what
forest we have left after this summer of infernos. We can all work
to protect the environmental gift we were given.
Lshana tova to you all.
