Reflections of a cold winter day

Geese on the Missouri River below Fort Peck Dam

stroll across new ice that is probably about as slick
as the hockey rink at the Valley Event Center. While

tomorrow sounds like a great day for some outdoor

activities, another system is moving in with a likely
chance of more snow.

Rocky is once again Montanas Sportscaster of the Year

Rocky Erickson, Sports Director
of the Northern Broadcasting System
based in Billings, has been named
for the ninth time the Montana
Sportscaster of the Year presented
by the National Sportscasters and
Sportswriters Association (NSSA).

Voted on by his peers, Erickson

plans on attending the 57th annual

NSSA awards weekend in Salisbury,
North Carolina this June. Of the 50
state sportscaster winners only four
others have won the award more
times than Erickson. The last time
Erickson won the award was in 2009.

Solid Finances: Identity Theft

In the course of a busy day, you may use your

debit or credit card at the grocery store, charge tickets
to a concert or ball game, rent a car, mail your tax
returns, call home on your cell phone, or apply for a
credit card.
Chances are you dont give these every day
transactions a second thought. But someone else may.
The 1990s spawned a new variety of crooks called
identity thieves. Their stock in trade: Your everyday
transactions, which reveal bits of your personal
information.
Identity theft is a serious crime. People whose
identities have been stolen can spend months or years
and their hard earned money cleaning up the
mess thieves have made of their good name and credit
record.
The 9th session in the 2015-2016 Solid Finances
series, brought to us by the MSU Extension Service,
is Wednesday, January 27th at 12:05 p.m. in the
Community Room of the Valley County Courthouse.
This presentation will teach you proven techniques and
strategies to help you protect yourself from becoming a
victim of identity theft, providing you tips on what to
do if you have become a victim of identity theft.

The 75-year-old had just
finished his morning jog and wasnt
even short of breath.
The 70-year-old was amazed
at the guys stamina and asked him
what he did to have so much energy.
The 75-year-old said, Well, I eat rye
bread every day. It keeps your energy
level high and youll have great
stamina with the ladies.

So, on the way home the 70-yearold stopped at the bakery. As he was
looking around, the saleslady asked
if he needed any help. He said, do
you have any rye bread?
She said, Yes, theres a whole
shelf of it. Would you like some?

He said, I want five loaves.
She said, My goodness, five
loaves! By the time you get to the 3rd
loaf, itll be hard.
He replied, I cant believe
everybody knows about this rye
bread except me!

Question: Why did the cows
return to the marijuana field?

Answer: It was the pot calling
the cattle back.

Question: What goes, Clip

BANG BANG clip clop clip clop
clip clop... ?

Answer: An Amish drive-by
shooting.

I can sympathize with batteries.

Rocky Erickson continued from front

In Salisbury, National Sportscaster of the Year Mike
Doc Emrick of NBC Sports will hand Erickson his
award. Being inducted into the NSSA Hall of Fame that
night will be Chris Berman of ESPN and Billy Packer of
CBS Sports.

Erickson, a native of Vida and graduate of Wolf Point
High School, says it is very humbling for him to win. He
tells the story of his first year that he attended the award
ceremony:

They had all of the state winners line up outside on
the patio by state alphabetical order. In front of me was
Jack Buck, the play-by-play announcer of the St. Louis
Cardinals, the two guys behind me were the announcers
for the New York Yankees and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
One of them asked what I did in Montana and I proudly
said that I announced high school basketball.
If you would like to hear Erickson call a Montana
high basketball game, tune into Nemont.TV on Friday,
January 29, for a District 2C doubleheader when the
Fairview Warriors play the Culbertson Cowgirls/
Cowboys in Culbertson. The girls are scheduled to tipoff
at 6 p.m. and the boys 7:30 p.m. with Erickson providing
the play-by-play of both games live on Nemont.TV.
