The family history
My name is Luis Amaya and I am 16 years old and I was born on April 14, 1999.
I was brought over from mexico while my mom was pregnant and was born in San
Jose, California. I am the only male out of my two other siblings. My other sister Karen,
is the age of 14 and my other sister Alondra, is the age of 4. This makes me the first
child born in the U.S and after my birth my parents went back to Mexico and we lived
there for about two years till my mom was pregnant with my sister. We headed back to
California for the birth of my sister. We have been living in California ever since.
My parents are from Oaxaca, Mexico in a town called San Pablo Huixtepec. They
both met at the age of 19 and married a year later. After a couple of months of of my
mom being pregnant with me, my parents moved to california and stayed with my
uncles house till I was born Our culture can be considered traditional but we dont
celebrate all the traits we use to. My parents did not go to college but they did go to
highschool in Mexico. My parents area of work was selling food. They owned a place
where they sold food and had and an arcade in it. I consider my dad and mom to be my
mentors and the people I look up to. I am sure that my parents have helped me survive
and thrive this far for all the support they have given me all my life.

In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell explains that an outlier is a thing or

phenomenon that lies outside of a normal experience. He gave an example of a belo
zero day during the summer. He states that a cold day in the summer would be an
outlier because it is out of the ordinary. I would say that I am not an outlier, at least not
yet. The reason I say this is because I feel that I am too young to really be considered
an outlier. For example Bill Gates wasnt considered an outlier till later on when he
became notably successful and became the CEO and founder of Microsoft. I say that
because I have personally not done something like that out of the ordinary where it
stood out like Bill Gates or any other rich and successful persons success. Well at least
not yet. Those are the reasons on why I dont consider myself an outlier yet.
