*The following questions were designed to help you formulate your project in more concrete
terms. Please respond to the following questions in as much detail as possible in order to
help us understand what you intend. All questions must be completed thoroughly to gain
approval for your project. Answer each question as specifically as you can at this point in the
process (use complete sentences).
1.
Provide a list of things that you are personally drawn to these may be your skills or
interests, or they may be things that you would like to know more about.
Nature
Exercise
Art
Hiking
Collecting
Organization
2.
Who will you be interviewing in order to learn more about your topic? List these specific
individuals and cite why they will be helpful in your exploration (you should list at least 2 people)
Ms. Parker - She can help us identify bug species and give us insight into the biological
nature of insects
Mr. Clark - He is very knowledgeable about environmental systems in the area and can
give us advice on insect ecology
3.

What types of methods will you use to do your research?

People/Interviews
Books
Internet Guides/Forums

4.
Drawing on the above questions, describe what you are proposing to do for your project
in as much detail as you can provide at this point.
Through the science of entomology, including insect collection, preservation, and
identification, we are investigating the ecological impact that various insect species have on
local nature sights.
5.

How is this proposal a stretch and challenge for you?

Justin: This project is a stretch for me because science related subjects have never
come to me easily. I am hoping to gain a new interest in the biological studies of insects
William: This project is a challenge for me because I have always loved alternative art
forms, but I have previously struggled with success in art.
6.
What is your previous experience in this project area (if you do not have experience,
please explain why this newfound topic is of interest and what led you to choose it specifically)?

We have experience with hiking, art, and biology. This project is a stretch for us
because we have never explored this alternative combination of interests.
7.
How long do you expect it to take to complete your project? Be realistic. (Senior project
allocates significant time on and away from campus. How is your project something that justifies
using the entire second semester and two weeks off of campus?)
Our project is ongoing, the more time we have the more we can learn about the
environment around us and the greater amount of insect species we can collect. At minimum
we need to spend 8 weekends outside of class.
8.
When and where will you work on your project? Do you need to contact anyone in
regards to when/where you will be working on this project? If so, who will you contact? (*make
sure to cc your Sr. Project teacher when writing emails)
We will be working outside of school exploring local nature sights and forming our
presentation. During class we will be researching various trails and working to identify and pin
insects we've collected.
9.

What do you anticipate the project will cost, and where will you find your funding?
$200 for various equipment in order to aid us in collection and presentation of insects.

10.
Think ahead towards outcomes. Explain and articulate the measurable outcomes you
plan to see at the culmination of your project. How will these outcomes be demonstrated? What
do you expect to be proud of once youve completed your project?
Physically, we will come out of this with a vast collection of properly mounted insects.
Mentally, we will gain knowledge and interest in the field of biological studies and explore local
species around us.
11.
If you plan to work in a team, explain why the scope of this project requires more than
one senior devoting time throughout the semester.
Multiple people on our project will allow us to collect, preserve, and display a greater
number of insects. We will also be able to devote greater time to researching and identifying
local insect species.
