Paige Edwards

Screen test notes

Actor 1 (Role of Megan)

Name: Danielle Connelly
Age: 16
Height: 53
Features: Dark hair, white, light brown eyes

Screen test notes on Danielle (for Megan)

This character is meant to create a sense of isolation within her atmosphere,
as well as being very indecisive. She is in love; however, it leads her in the
wrong direction. She has to feel scared and intimidated, almost enough so the
audience are able to sympathise her.
Whilst viewing the first actress performance for the role of Megan, I noticed
that her appearance and deliverance of lines and body language was not
what I was looking for. Viewing her actions from several angles, it was evident
that she couldnt express her emotions well enough towards the males actions
and reactions show that she was unhappy or actually in love. I analysed this
when I asked her to act out the stage directions
MEGAN looks at the floor as OMARI leaves, slamming the
door behind him. MEGAN gets out her phone and texts LEWIS
looking as if she was about to cry, LEWIS replies and
MEGAN looks at her phone as if she wishes he didnt.
MEGAN grabs her coat as leaves through the front door.
She showed a lack of interest towards the subject romance or love. As the
performance went on, she showed some more confidence, but not enough to
act as a female protagonist within my film. Also, I had to consider her image,
she had white features and wasnt of the best height to portray the character I
wished to have for this role.
Although she is a bubbly character, she just failed to deliver the typical actions
and emotions, such as being in a trapped relationship and showing her upset,
worry and disappointment, which would attract my target audience. Overall
she did not manage to have everything I wished for my main female
antagonist to have.

Actor 1 (Role of Megan):

Name: Elise Thompson
Age: 16
Height: 55
Features: Dark hair, black, brown eyes.

Screen test notes on Elise (for Megan)

This character is meant to create a sense of isolation within her atmosphere,
as well as being very indecisive. She is in love; however, it leads her in the
wrong direction. She has to feel scared and intimidated, almost enough so the
audience are able to sympathise her.
Whilst viewing the second actress performance for the role of Megan,, I
realized that her performance was the better one out of the two that I
analysed and it was what I was looking for. Her dialogue and body language
were all exactly how I wanted this actor to be. She was dressed casually;
however had the elements to fulfill the role. It was evident that she enjoyed
taking part in the surroundings and along with the other actors. She managed
her given script and managed her emotions well, whilst delivering her lines
with confidence and maintaining this throughout. To analyse this, I also asked
her to act out a small part of the stage directions in my script:
MEGAN looks at the floor as OMARI leaves, slamming the
door behind him. MEGAN gets out her phone and texts LEWIS
looking as if she was about to cry, LEWIS replies and
MEGAN looks at her phone as if she wishes he didnt.
MEGAN grabs her coat as leaves through the front door.
Also the physical features were perfect, such as height and dark features
were most suitable for this role. Overall she had everything I wished for my
main female protagonist to have.

Paige Edwards

Actor 2 (Role of Omari)

Name: Kerem Bal
Age: 16
Height: 55
Features: Dark hair, white.

Screen test notes on Kerem (for Omari)

This character has to appear as a type of delinquent, very controlling and full
of rage and anger, even towards his loved ones, especially his girlfriend
Megan. This character needs to be able to have full focus on their
aggression and power, as it will not look believable if he doesnt. He needs to
portray the stereotypical ways of a young black teenager, being in a gang, in
todays society.
When I watched my first actors performance for the role of Omari, I
immediately identified his lack of confidence, which is a crucial part in this
characters performance. Although he was tall, he did not fit the general
stereotype of this character that I was going for, due to his white features and
attitude. He also didnt show his emotions very well when trying to be violent
and aggressive, and when he had to express the fact he was a controlling
man towards a woman (characters girlfriend Megan). This was all clearly
evident when I asked him to be on the phone to someone and act out the
lines:

Lis
ten, just prey I dont find you blud

He was more on the soft side rather than being forceful and angry, and he did
not portray someone that was intimidating or powerful. Also, he did not look
interested in his lines and how he had to act, he didnt have the body
language to show his aggression. Overall, he did not have what I wished for
one of my main male antagonists to have

Actor 2 (Role of Omari)

Name: Ishmael Raymond
Age: 16
Height: 57
Features: Dark hair, black

Screen test notes on Ishmael (for Omari)

This character has to appear as a type of delinquent, very controlling and full
of rage and anger, even towards his loved ones, especially his girlfriend
Megan. This character needs to be able to have full focus on their
aggression and power, as it will not look believable if he doesnt. He needs to
portray the stereotypical ways of a young black teenager, being in a gang, in
todays society.
When I watched my second actors performance for the role of Omari, even
by his attitude, I immediately knew he was very suitable for the role. He had
the dark features I needed for my stereotypically young teen role. Also, he had
the right act of emotion towards his lines, especially the aggression and force
I needed for this character, as well as the control I needed for him to have
towards a woman (characters girlfriend Megan). When I asked for him to
speak on the phone to someone saying the lines
Listen, just prey I dont find you blud
He expressed the aggression that I needed, as well as portraying the
intimidation I needed as a young black male. He was also, interested in his
role and was more than happy with who he acted along with as well as his
surroundings. He managed to have everything I wanted one of my typical
antagonists to have.

Paige Edwards

Actor 3 (Role of Lewis)

Name: Josh Hurst
Age: 17
Height: 58
Features: Ginger hair, blue eyes, white

Screen test notes on Josh (for Lewis)

This character is meant to be full of passion, and good at expressing his
interest in Megan (Omaris girlfriend) as well as being able to maintain
confidence when he is out of his comfort zone.
Whilst watching my first actors performance, I straight away identified that he
was extremely nervous and not all at confident. While acting out the lines:
Fam, I didnt know she was your girl, you think I want a
girl that next mans been through?
He said this with no passion or angression, he had trouble expressing his
emotions well. I also had to think about his features, the light hair and facial
features, didnt fit the stereotypical teen I was going for, for this role. He wasnt
that aware of what he had to do and his body language had to be, as well as
not really having an interest with working with the other actors. Overall he did
not manage to perform well enough to be the main antagonist in my film.

Paige Edwards
Actor 3 (Role of Lewis)
Name: Craig Jeakins
Age: 16
Height: 510
Features: Mixed race, dark hair, brown eyes

Screen test notes on Craig (for Lewis)

This character is meant to be full of passion, and
good at expressing his interest in Megan (Omaris
girlfriend) as well as being able to maintain
confidence when he is out of his comfort zone.
After watching my second actors performance, I immediately identified that
he was perfect for this role. His voice projection was great and he was
extremely confident with his lines:
Fam
, I
didnt know she was your girl, you think I want a girl
that next mans been through?
He showed that he can maintain the idea of aggression with a sense of
confusion, as well as confidence at the same time. He worked extremely well
a long side his characters and expressed his anger in exactly the way I
wanted. Overall he was a really good performer and had everything I wished
for my protagonist to have.
