Organizes, allocates, and manages the resources of time, space, and attention

This year in my 4th grade classroom there was a lot of time saving procedures
put in place. One in particular that I really enjoyed was our lining up
procedure. We sang a song that worked incredible well as an attention getter.
The song was a great way of getting the students focused on getting ready to
transition/leave the classroom and ensure that they were following directions.
I showed the video to the class and supervisor. I couldnt believe that a song
would be that effective in an intermediate grade level but it surely worked. It
was a viable time saver and call to attention.
Another thing that I did to allocate time and attention was to stick strong to
time periods in my lesson plans. I did not want too much time spent on each
part of my lesson. I would write out my lesson plans with set times in which I
would aim to start and finish each segment of the lesson.

Manages individual and class behaviors through a well-planned management system;

One thing we learned in this class this semester is to have a plan. This is
very important when talking about behavior management. If name does
this. What will I have as a consequence/punishment? We had a plus
minus tally mark system in our classroom based on table points. If a
student was not on task or a table was not responsive, that table would lose
points. It works well with tables because the student feels bad that they
just lost a point for the table on their behalf. This also goes the same way
in a positive way. When a student or table is doing well, they earn a point.
That gives extra satisfaction to that student and or table for being
recognized and getting praise/a point. If an individual was out of line several
times in a day then they would get a check in their behavior folder.

Conveys high expectations to all
students
One of my biggest strengths in teaching is my positive attitude. I
always push for my students to learn to their fullest. In our
classroom this year we had a super improvement wall. This
wall was in place to show students their growth both
academically and behavioral. If a student improved from their
last math or science test, they would put a star on the super
improvement wall to show that they had improved. This brought
about great satisfaction for the students. I also pride myself in
working with the struggling students and pointing out when I see
great improvements in their work/grades.

The super improvement wall allowed
our students to visually see when and
How they improved throughout the
School year.

Respects students cultural linguistic and family background;
This semester I had a student who was from Columbia and spoke Spanish as his primary
language. When he arrived to us he did not speak much English at all. I can speak
Spanish pretty well but have a hard time understanding it. I really enjoyed talking to
him in the mornings in his native language and tried to help him make sense of school
work and other school situations. He really enjoyed having an adult other than the ESOL
teacher to speak with and our teacher/student relationship really grew throughout the
semester. Another thing that I really enjoyed this semester was participating in parent
teacher conferences. I got to meet and talk with a lot of my students parents and get to
know about their background and family life style. I got to see what parents really cared
about their son/daughters success and who were just there because they had to be. No
matter the situation, I really enjoyed and learned from each experience.
Blog 2 in this class was a great blog that we did connecting what we talked about in
class to what we know and want to know about our students culture and family
background. It discussed how I really paid attention to my students conversation on
day 1 with their parents and tried to grab as much information about them as possible.

Models clear, acceptable oral and written communication skills;

am a very big communicator. I love having an understanding on

what is going on and always want to be kept in the loop. I pride
myself on being very professional and approachable in my
communications skills. My CT and I had a very professional
relationship through daily dialogue whether it was through face
to face interaction, emails, or text messages. We would discuss
future week lesson plans and reflect on past class lessons and
scenarios. I always kept a strong language connection with my
supervisor as well throughout the semester.

f. Maintains a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness and support;

I am always in the mood to learn. Whether it is from my CT or

supervisor, or even from a sub who might be in my room that day. I
am always asking questions and welcoming feedback. I am often my
biggest critic and am always asking what I could have done better.
Lunchtime and after school were some of my greatest learning
periods because I was able to collaborate with other interns and our
fourth grade team. The fourth grade teachers always kept us in their
plans and treated us just like fellow teachers. The amount of support
we received was incredible. I learned everyday something new
whether it was through my inquiry or just through basic
teacher/intern collaboration. I took every learning moment in stride
and loved each and every situation I was exposed to.

Over the last two years, We have had to dive deep into
our inquiry projects. This past semester we kept our
inquiry notes on our blog.
We had checkpoints to keep up with our inquiry. One of
more important focuses throughout the last two years

Integrates current information and communication technologies;

I feel that students learn the best when you incorporate current events
into the lessons. This can be simple like using Thanksgiving terms in your
math lessons during the month of November or by bringing in Halloween
discussion during October. The students also really enjoyed it when I
would use their names in the problems we were doing. It added sparked
interest in the lesson. They also really enjoyed when we integrated
technology into a lesson.
I would often try and find a youtube clip or online video that would
introduce or summarize a lesson in different words and a different voice
other than my own. The engagement during these videos or lessons really
showed how important this concept/strategy was for them.

youtube video about magnetism that
had a very catchy tune for the
students to learn from.

Feap 2.H
Adapts the learning environment to accommodate the differing needs and diversity of students;
and

I feel that another one of my strengths is finding the interests in my

students. When you find common ground amongst students, you
can use that to relate the material. Many of my fourth graders
were hands-on and visual learners. As a class we would often use
dry erase boards so that students could construct models for their
math problems on their own. They liked having it laid out in front of
them and for them to be able to manipulate. Also bringing in their
common interests. My class had a passion for sports and food.
Towards the end of the semester we were working on fractions in
math. When I started using pizza as my whole instead of
calling it a circle, they really started to become both more engaged
and understanding the concepts. Sparked interest = higher level of
thinking potential.

Feap 2.H evidence

Students loved seeing their names or classmates names
in problems in their problems/activities.
Here is an example of a lesson plan and question
asked during the lesson.

This lesson was on fractions and using pizza as the

Whole was a way the students really liked using
When talking about fractions.

Utilizes current and emerging assistive technologies that enable students to participate
in high-quality communication interactions and achieve their educational goals.

In my fourth grade class, most of my students had an electronic device at their

disposal. This included ipads, tablets, kindles, or iphones. Throughout this
semester, we have brought those into play in our lessons. Just recently I lead a
nearpod activity. Nearpod.com is a way to integrate a power point lesson into a
group activity where the students can see the powerpoint at their own fingers.
The activities and problems can be worked on their device with a draw it.
The students love it because the distraction is the lesson. Their engagement in
their devices for the lesson is fun to see. It provides the students with the
opportunity to be even more creative in their work. Another assistive
technology device that I had in my classroom was a stress ball. The stress ball
was given to a student who was diagnosed with ADHD. The stress ball allows
him to maintain focus while having that in his desk and its not a distraction to
him or the students around him. It is a piece of assistive technology that I will
definitely have on hand for my future classroom.
