Human Resources Department - Duty Statement No 13

Team Leader/Health and Safety Officer

Name:

Date:

As Health and Safety Officer your primary responsibilities are to help maintain a safe
working environment and provide staff with information that will assist them to work safer.
You are also the Human Resources department team leader. Use a personal daily work
plan to help you organise your day.

Monitor team progress throughout the day and advise the office manager of any
problems. Complete a Team Activity Report.

Prepare a lunch roster. Half the available staff from each department will take lunch
from 11.45 12.30 pm. The other half will go to lunch at 12.30 and return at 1.15 pm.

One of the staff has had an accident and will report it to you. Get them to fill out an
employee accident/incident report form. When the form is complete, make out the
Employers Report to be sent to the insurance company. (Blank copies of both
forms should be in the HR department filing drawer - photocopy as required). You
should pay particular attention to the section on the employers report which details
what preventative action should be taken to prevent future accidents. Counsel the
employee about preventative action if required. Copies should be placed in personel
files.

Prepare and deliver an exercise session for staff with a minimum of 6 exercises to
reduce muscle tension and stress. Create a handout for each staff member
explaining the different exercises. Contact three staff members from the internal
department and go through the exercises with them. Dont forget to invite the Office
Manager too (HINT: she will quiz you on the reasons for doing the exercises!).

Locate information about an occupational health or safety hazard that could occur in
an office and how the hazard can be avoided. (Choose a situation that has not
previously been covered.) Make an A4 poster.

Write an article for the staff newsletter on safety in the office. You should focus on
ONE aspect of OHS (eg. Ergonomics etc) and write a brief report. Save it into the
folder for newsletter (Z>newsletters>StudentArticles) and name it as follows. Name, date, topic.
For example; Larsson 24nov Ergonomics.

Your year group will take over the assembly and special events set-up in term 4.
Write a brief report identifying any possible OHS issues involved in the assembly set
up. Include details of any special training that would be required.

Prepare an evacuation plan for the office in the event of an emergency. Make sure
that all staff are aware of the details of the plan and the Emergency Assembly Area.
