How does your media product represent particular social groups?

We have identified three social groups that our product, stalker has produced.
One of the social groups that we have identified is age. Our product mainly
represents people of the older teenage to young adult age group and relates to
our target audience between the ages of 15 and 21. This social group is being
represented by our production by our actresses who are 16 and fit between the
age brackets of our target audience which, allows the audience to connect and
relate to the characters who are also meant to be 16. Both our actresses are
dressed as typical teenagers and in one of the scenes they use their phones this
supports the stereotype of teenagers being frequent users of their phones.
The production supports the stereotype of young people being
immature and fearless as we have shown a stalker. Who are
emotionally immature because they get obsessed and attached to
other people most teenagers are obsessed with celebrities
however, we have shown a different case of a girl becoming
obsessed with a friend. This is shown by long duration shots
throughout our opening sequence showing the mise en scene of a stalkers room.
Another social group that we have recognised is gender.
The production shows the younger generation of females
this means that they have been shown in a modern way.
The close up of Camilla stroking the image allows the
females in the audience to relate and recognise the
character. There are also many tilt shots in some long
duration scenes which shows the female thought process double checking their
surroundings.
It is most likely that the older generation of women would not be able to relate
to our production. However, our production does not relate to the male gender as
it is mostly aimed at the younger female target audience as it concentrates on
common female stereotypical issues. The male presence is only shown through
photographs which, shows that the hero is unable to protect the vulnerable
victim. The flashbacks show that the male character has more control over her
than the friend and she would choose him over the best friend.
Our opening sequence also represents different types of sexuality. Camilla the
stalker is homosexual. We have shown their through our mise en scene having
images of her love interest everywhere to shows what she thinks about. In one of
the scenes Camilla is stroking a picture with mine written all over it to show that
she is homosexual. Quick editing shows that she is hiding her identity and feels
like and feels different. Serena is heterosexual this is when they love people of
the different gender which is shown throughout the opening sequence as the
best friend is jealous of the Serenas boyfriend. This is shown as Serena being
more confident and open and there are also evident images of her and the
boyfriend.
