Humanism was a movement and belief that the purpose of humans

was to find out their abilities and not blindly follow a religion or its beliefs.
The renaissance humanist movement was to promote human abilities,
human worth and the practice of the arts. Although humanist thought can be
recognized back to Siddhrtha Gautamata, the renaissance humanist act was
known to have begun in Italy in the 14th century with a man named Petrarch.
This year my project is a website that is about Humanism and all the
accomplishments of individuals that lead the movement and changed ideas
and created things in Western Europe. I chose this topic because the idea of
changing the human mind from only caring about religious ideas to
discovering the human capabilities is a topic that really interest and inspires
me. At first I didnt understand the topic but when my history teacher
explained it I became very interested in learning more about the renaissance
humanism movement.
To find information about my topic I first asked my history teacher what
it was about. Then after getting a better understanding I researched online
all the humanists and where humanism began. I chose my primary sources
by looking at articles online that were very informative and reliable. My
secondary sources were the ones that gave a bit of information about the
topic and biographies about the humanist that lead the humanism act.
I chose to do a website for my project because the topic has a lot of
important figures that helped to change the way of thinking and help begin

the Renaissance. On a website I can give information about each person and
provide pictures to help understand and to get a better picture. I can also
divide all parts of the topic that are going to be discussed and give
information about them.
My project is related to this years theme Exploration, Encounter,
Exchange in History because this completely changed history. Humanism
changed the way people saw the world and began to believe in another
purpose. Humanism was what led to the renaissance. The renaissance, or
rebirth, was a period in European civilization after the Middle Ages that gave
an interest in education and values. The Renaissance also helped the
discovery and exploration of new continents and advancements in
astronomy. Western Europe quickly became successful again and as a result,
other areas of the world became influenced and became more modern as
well. Western Europe helped change the way of thinking in other places of
the world which caused other countries to act and all these events were what
helped shape our world today.
