Riverside Police Make Arrest for Stolen Vehicle Out of Chicago

Juvenile steals car in morning to commit crimes that same afternoon

On Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 11:20 a.m., a Riverside Police officer spotted a vehicle the 3400 block
of Harlem with expired registration tags on it. When he ran the license plate, the vehicle came back as
stolen out of Chicago earlier that Sunday morning. As the officer attempted to make a stop, the vehicle
turned on to Addison Road and traveled west into Riverside. Riverside units followed the vehicle until it
was stopped at Longcommon and Delaplaine Road. Riverside officers initiated a felony traffic stop and
took the offenders into custody without incident.
After the individuals were taken into custody, it was learned that they were all juveniles. The driver, a
male, 14-year-old juvenile out of Chicago stated that he had borrowed the car from his grandmother.
Riverside Police did not believe this information and they were all transported into the police station for
further investigation.
Once in the police station, it was learned from the owner that she had parked her vehicle on the
5200 block of South Springfield Avenue in Chicago. Early on Sunday morning, she had gone out to
warm the car up. When she came back out, the car was missing. She then reported it stolen to the
Chicago Police Department.
Riverside Police charged the 14-year-old male juvenile from Chicago with one count of felony
possession of motor vehicle and several traffic violations. The three other male juveniles in the car
were from Brookfield, Cicero, and Chicago. These individuals were released without charges.
Riverside Police learned in their investigation that the juveniles were on their way to pick up another
female juvenile and then continued to drive around the west suburban area in the stolen cars looking to
commit crimes. Fortunately, these individuals were able to be apprehended before they could actually
commit other criminal acts.
