Cyanide is one of the most poisonous substances known
to man. A single tea spoon of a 2% solution is enough to kill
a human being.
In Europe multinational mining companies increasingly
want develop large scale open pit mining and use vast
amounts of cyanide to extract metals such as gold and
silver. This is incredibly risky and devastating accidents
have been occurring on a regular base.
Communities all over Europe from Finland to Spain and
Greece to Portugal are fighting for their survival and
against such mining practices. One such example is Rosia
Montana, a village in Romania, where Canadian Gabriel
Resources wants to develop Europe’s largest open pit gold
mine. Meanwhile the European Commission which was
tasked to ban cyanide based mining, refuses to act.
