Discharge of Reclaimed Water

Once water has been treated to levels required by State of Georgia regulations, the reclaimed water is ready for
return to the Chattahoochee River via an outfall and diffuser . The outfall for the Johns Creek Environmental
Campus is located close to the west property boundary. The reclaimed water flows by gravity through a 48-inch
pipeline from the post aeration tank toward a flow distribution manhole near the riverbank. At the river, the 48-
inch line is connected to three separate 36-inch diffuser pipelines that uniformly distribute flow to one of three
diffusers embedded in the bottom of the river. The design allows for boats and other river users to pass over the
diffusers without knowing they are there. The water returned to the river is actually cleaner than the water in
the river.
