Italys government was extremely unstable, and Mussolini promised to bring it a strong, lasting
government (Alvarado Class Notes).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?
Since Italy was in economic and political collapse, it was desperate for anything that could start to
rebuild its former stability. Mussolinis fascist government used this desperation to gain control over
Italy.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?
Italy was the first country to adopt fascism as its form of government, making its change from a
scattered country to a unified one an example for other to-be fascist countries.

2-3 sentences
Evidence # 1
The forces currently in control of the world are Jews here and Jews there and Jews everywhere. The
hardship we are now experiencing is because of them (Mein Kampf).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?
This is but one example of the extreme intolerance fascism caused. Fascism focuses on extreme
nationalism, and as such, foreigners and minorities are often hated. This hostility between the
different people of Europe would make it very easy to spark a full-scale war.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?
After WWI, countries such as Germany or Italy were in economic and political collapse. By giving the
people a focus to direct their hatred, the government gained more control over the people by
appearing to solve the problem at the root.

Evidence #3
Quality support
Significance (analysis)
2-3 sentences
Evidence # 1
Above all, Fascism believes neither in the possibility nor in the usefulness of peace. War alone
brings out the best in people and puts the stamp of nobility upon the people who have the courage
to face it (The Doctrine of Fascism).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?
Fascism was on the rise in many different places in Europe at the same time. Europes nature as
continent with many different countries crowded in a small place made it inevitable that these warloving nations would eventually face off in a war against each other.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?
Europe had just recently gotten out of WWI, which was the worst war the continent had seen at the
time. The fascist dictators, however, would put an already unstable Europe in danger of another war.
