What is stop-motion animation?

Stop motion (also known as stop frame) is an animation technique
to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own.
The object is moved in small increments between individually
photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the
series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Dolls with
movable joints or clay figures are often used in stop motion for

Assignment: Stage Design

Designing and Constructing the Set: In addition to the characters, each team will need to
design, create, and build the set or scenes where the action will take place. Scenes can be highly
elaborate sets or simple backgrounds made of one color. The background should not overshadow
your characters.
Directions: Use construction paper, and glue to build the stage for your characters to act. Use
this worksheet to help you brainstorm ideas, and draw them before constructing your set.

Assignment: Storyboards
Making Storyboards: A storyboard is a visual outline for the story you want to tell. Making one can help you see
what you want your actors to do before you build your set and create your characters. Here is an example:

Directions: Use this sheet to tell your story scene by scene. Under each frame you draw, write a sentence
explaining the action.
