Susan B. Anthony showed diligence by never giving up. She worked hard for
the abolition of slavery and womens suffrage. She attended conventions,
gave speeches, wrote books, and voted in the Presidential election when
women did not have this right. She continued to fight even after she was
arrested and fined.
12. How did Anthonys childhood and upbringing influence her beliefs as an
adult? Anthony was raised in the Quaker church, and they believed that
women should have the same right as men. Women had important jobs, and
girls learned the same things as boys. Susan was raised to be independent.
This influenced her beliefs as an adult because she continued to believe that
women should have equal rights.
13. Why did Susan quit her teaching job at Canajoharie Academy? Susan
quit her teaching job because she was paid much less than men who did the

same job. She was also angered by slavery and wanted to work for justice,
so she quit her job so that she could spend her time fighting against slavery.
