Activity: Dominos Play Therapy

Source: Kaduson, H., & Schaefer, C. E. (1997). 101 favorite play therapy techniques. Northvale,
NJ: J. Aronson.
Equipment Needed: Dominos Set
Activity Description: Many people are familiar with the game of Dominos. The same general
rules apply to game of Dominos. Everyone gets 10 pieces and follows the order according to the
last number placed on the table. The Facilitator must emphasize the rules of the game and make
sure that everyone introduces themselves before playing. Also working with kids they might not
understand the rules so have them lined up the dominos and have them knocked down in order to
create a domino effect.
Leadership Skills: When working with kids with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and conduct
disorder they sometimes dont understand or have the inability to recognize consequences for
their action. This game places them in environment where they are forced to be in environment
where they can express there feeling with kids with the same issue. Working with types of kids
one must make sure they dont engage in argument with each other that can most likely escalate
to fighting.
