Dear First,
The untamed spirit of the Colorado mountains and plains has captured the hearts of Colorados citizens and
many wandering travelers. Whether we experience this spirit and the beauty Colorado has to offer while
walking in a century flower-laden wood, hiking in the mountains, letting yourself fill with the beauty of nature
while sitting atop a peak, we all know how lucky we are to have this incredible environment in which to call our
home.
The Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) has provided, for over 25 years, the vision, the
resources, and the actions to ensure that all citizens of the State of Colorado have access to the information they
need to learn about the environment in which they live. CAEE serves all sectors of the Colorado community by
increasing the effectiveness of environmental education. CAEE is dedicated to supporting and promoting
quality environmental education opportunities by facilitating communication, coordination and professional
development among the varied environmental education programs in the state.
Environmental stewardship is everybodys responsibility. Environmental education is, by far, the most effective
means that society has for confronting its environmental future. It is the most potent force for shaping the world
of tomorrow. Environmental education builds a knowledgeable and skilled citizenry and promotes a balanced
analysis of social, economic, and ecological needs. As a member of CAEE, you have continually demonstrated
your commitment to protecting the special place that Colorado is and supporting balance environmental
education to ensure that we have solutions to the challenges facing our states environment. Thank you, as
always, for this commitment.
We all know the demands being placed on our local and global environment, as well as the demands being
placed on our formal and informal education systems. We can no longer afford to treat environmental education
as optional. Across the globe, problems caused by climate change, pollution, and resource depletion are
increasingly acute. This, in turn, creates a growing demand on CAEE to ensure that we provide a lifelong
learning experience about our environment, to ensure that all citizens have access to quality environmental
education, and to provide our voice in developing adaptable, smart and sustainable solutions to environmental
problems.
I am writing to you today to ask you to consider a very personal decision that will create a legacy for endless
generations of Coloradoans. I am asking that you become a member of the Colorado Alliance for
Environmental Education Legacy Society. A gift by will or bequest is totally deductible for estate tax purposes.
When you inform us that you have named CAEE in your will, we will include you as a founder. Be sure to
consult your attorney when drawing up or revising your will to ensure that your intentions are carried out
properly. I have included sample bequest language for your assistance on the next page.

Commonly used language for a charitable bequest:

Residual Bequest - This grants the residue, or portion of the residue, of your estate to CAEE after explicit
bequests have been made:
"I give to Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, a non-profit organization located at 1536 Wynkoop
St., Suite 314, Denver, CO 80202, all (or ____ %) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and
personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated."
Specific Bequest This is for a stated dollar amount or specific securities:
"I give to Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, a non-profit organization located at 1536 Wynkoop
St, Suite 314, Denver, Colorado, 80202, the sum of ____ dollars (or describe the specific property or security
you intend to give)."
