Chessmaster Instructions

1. Bishops x Knights
1.1. In a closed game, a knight is better than a bishop. In an open game a bishop
is better than a knight. So be careful in your strategic decisions. So if you have a
bishop against a knight, you want to open up a game.
1.2 Two Bishops together are better than two knights or a bishop and a knight
1.3 When there are two spaces between bishop and knight, bishop dominates
knight (page 70 Mastery Quiz of Josh).
2. Knights
2.1 Diagonally with one square in between is very far for a knight. So you can be
very close to a knight but safe from attack.
2.2. Look for outposts for the knight. Outpost is a square deep in the enemy
camp that an enemy pawn cannot attack.
2.3. Queen and knight is usually a little stronger than queen and bishop.
2.4. Knight Opening Focus on F7 (Fork between queen and rook). See Josh Knight
Fork page 4.
2.5. Combination to get a fork. See Josh Knight Fork page 12.
2.6. All pieces can fork.
2.7. Always when a queen and a king are far just one square, look for a fork.
Work intuition.
3. Skewer/Pin
3.1. Skewer is stronger than Pin.
3.2. Only Bishops, rooks and queens can pin or skewer.
3.3. Pay attention to Pieces lined on diagonal, rank ou file to set up pins or
skewers.
3.4. After pin, attacks the pinned piece.
3.5. It is possible to escape from a pin using tempo.
3.6. Remove the defender Page 12 (Josh). Good Practice.
