Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
This artifact represents the class rules and expectations the class and I created together. This was an activity that the
students and I completed within the first couple days of school to help set ourselves up for success. During this lesson
we talked about the importance of rules and why we have them. Then the students had an opportunity to share ideas they
had for our classroom rules. The students then voted on which ones they felt were the most important. The top five rules
were then put onto our bulletin board where they can be seen every day and reviewed as needed.
Reflection on artifact:
This is an activity that both the students and I enjoy. During the first few weeks of school, it is essential to establish rules
and expectations so that the students can be successful. This activity also helps us begin to build a positive classroom
climate and community. The students have seemed to love getting to share their ideas for what our rules and expectations
should be. Sharing their ideas for rules and expectations helps them to feel more comfortable with their classmates and
myself. I have found that when they are voting on the rules, they are more likely to take ownership over them. I will
continue doing this type activity at the beginning of the year.
