This artifact summarizes Nicole Bruhn's attendance at a Kim Sutton math conference over the summer. The conference focused on math games for all common core standards. Bruhn learned games and activities to strengthen student understanding of math concepts incorporating number sense, place value, fractions, geometry and algebra. Attending the conference allowed Bruhn to play the games, discuss how to implement them, and learn how to differentiate activities for students of varying abilities. Bruhn reflected that the conference was beneficial for continuing professional growth and learning how to use games to enhance student learning in a positive way.

I chose this artifact to show:
_____ growth in this standard __X_ strength and competency in this standard Evidence to support attainment of this standard: Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard: I had the opportunity to attend a Kim Sutton math conference over the summer. This was a two day conference focused on math games for all of the common core standards. During the conference, we learned countless games and activities to strengthen the students understanding of math concepts. The games incorporate number sense through basic facts, place value, fractions, geometry and algebraic thinking. During the conference, I had the opportunity to play the games and participate in many of the activities. This was very beneficial because I was able to discuss the activity and see how I could implement it into my classroom. It was also beneficial to learn how these activities could be differentiated for the range of students that I have in my classroom. This artifact shows some of the notes that I took while at the conference. Reflection on artifact: This was the first conference that I had attended as a teacher. I was excited to take the initiative to continue my learning as a teacher. I enjoy using games in my classroom to enhance student learning in all content area. The biggest concept that I took from this conference was how to differentiate games for the wide range of ability levels in my classroom. Just changing the game slightly can allow for students to play at their level and work on the skills that they need. I have been using these games this year quite a bit but I am working to incorporate more. Math games are a great way to create a positive classroom environment. It allows the students to work on skills in a fun, positive way.
