Job Skills Checklist

Budgeting expenses My internship with the Athletics Marketing and Promotions

department requires the development and creation of marketing plans for each varsity
sport. Within each of those plans is a budget filled with the required expenses for the
season.
Finding information As a marketing intern, I was tasked with finding national anthem
singers in the area, groups to perform at half time for each of the basketball games, as
well as necessary information online about each team to create information sheets for
the Zzu Cru.
Meeting people - One of the main functions of my internship is to serve as a fan-relations
representative. A lot of my work centers on connecting with fans and delivering the best
possible game day experience that I can for them.
Classifying records In my work as a clerical assistant I am often tasked with sorting,
filing, and logging important school records and paperwork.
Handling complaints In nearly every job Ive ever had, I have served as the front line
for dealing with customer complaints. In those situations I have either forwarded the
customers on to someone who can better assist them with their problems or I did what I
could to help solve their issues.
Coaching individuals I have worked as a youth basketball and soccer coach since I was
in high school, volunteering in both my hometown community and in Pullman.
Handling detail work When planning events, attention to detail is everything. For me
that includes everything down to the little things like making sure that each fork is set the
same distance apart when setting a table for a Presidential dinner to ensuring that the
color on a flier for athletics matches the brand-specified hue.
Collecting money I have collected money for Zzu Cru t-shirt distribution firsthand. In
addition, I have collected checks in the Presidents Office for the WSU Foundation.
Tolerating interruptions As a clerical assistant, I have had to learn to be able to stop
whatever project Im working on at any moment and answer the phone or show someone
to their meeting room and then pick back up again after that.
Inventing new ideas/ proposing ideas Marketing and promotions is all about coming up
with new ideas and giveaways that will help to better engage with the fans and a lot of
this kind of idea generation was left to me as an intern for the department.
Coping with deadlines As a marketing intern, we have certain dates that the
promotional plans need to be completed by, dates that we must have performers
scheduled by, and dates that we need to have event recaps written by. All of this is
juggled during overlapping seasons for each sport.
Promoting events This is the main function of my internship. My job is to think of ways
to get students and community members to attend sporting events. Im also asked to think
of things to do at or during the games that will make fans want to come back again.
Organizing files As a clerical assistant, this is one of the most important parts of my
job. Much of my job in the beginning was creating electronic files of old university
records and organizing them within a computer database.
Managing people/Supervising employees/Listening to
others/ Teaching/instructing/training individuals - I grouped all of these together because
as a student lead for presidential events, this is one of the main responsibilities of my job.

Most other students that are employed by our office only work a few times a semester, so
it is my duty to make sure that they are properly trained and behave accordingly at what
are often very important events. This usually requires a lot of delegation and ensuring the
each individual always has something that they can be doing so that the event is ready to
begin on time.
Enduring long hours - Football game days begin five hours before kickoff which means
that we often arrive at 6 or 7am and dont leave until late at night. I also hold multiple
jobs on campus which means that Im in the office or in school from 8-5 and then go on
to work an event from 5-10, sometimes multiple times a week. These days/weeks require
a lot of planning and organizing of my schedule so that I can make sure I get schoolwork
done.
Distributing products I have been in charge of distributing Zzu Cru t-shirts as well as
prizes for when students redeem their Zzu Points for my internship.
Serving individuals Ive worked events for several years both at home and at school so
I am very familiar with serving individuals in the literal sense and in the customer service
area.
Interacting with people at different levels All of my jobs require me to work with a
variety of people from incoming students to the most powerful people in the university.

To Whom it May Concern:
My name is Annie Christie, and Im writing in response to the events internship posted on your
website. I feel I would be an excellent match for your internship program and the culture of
constant learning and development you have built within the U.S. Soccer Federation.
I believe that I would bring a unique skillset to this position through my strong work ethic,
critical thinking capabilities, and passion for soccer. I am constantly in search of new
opportunities to expand my knowledge of the sports industry, whether it is in professional or
development settings. An internship with U.S. Soccer would provide the perfect platform to
demonstrate my leadership capabilities as well as my extensive experience in customer service
and satisfaction.
Through my work as a marketing intern for Washington State University Athletics, I have
established strong communication skills in addition to the ability to organize promotional events
for our sports teams during stressful and time-sensitive situations. The firsthand responsibility of
planning and executing PAC-12 athletic events is a rare opportunity that has further developed
my ability to balance multiple projects at once. In addition, my time as a student even manager
for the Office of the President at Washington State University has helped me develop the skills
necessary to oversee and train a staff of students while maintaining a professional and hospitable
environment for the universitys most high profile guests.
Along with my experience, I bring with me the desire to be a contributing member of a team and
assist the U.S. Soccer Federation with reaching and exceeding current goals. Upon receiving my
bachelors degree in May 2016, I will be available for upwards of forty hours a week. Enclosed
please find my resume that provides a complete review of my experience and qualifications. I
appreciate your time and consideration and can be reached at (509) 860-9929 or
annie.christie@wsu.edu to discuss the position further.
Sincerely,
Annie Christie
