Objective (Explicit):
SWBAT describe the contributions and methods of investigation of one of five Ancient Greek historians Herodotus and
Thucydides as well as Ancient Greek scientist Thales, Pythagoras and Hippocrates.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):

100 % of the students will be able to describe the contributions made by one the 5 studied Ancient Greek
historian and scientists as demonstrated with 80% accuracy on the Resume Assignment. In this assignment
students will show mastery by completing a resume for one of the 5 Ancient Greek historians and scientist that
we went over in class by using their notes, textbook and the internetT. They will then share the information
they found with peers at their table the following day.

The breakdown of the points will be


6 points for the Ancient Greek historian or scientist motto/performance method or contribution in relation to
their field.
3 points for the rest of the points to be filled ( jobs, skills & abilities, accomplishments, awards & honors).
1 points for the references (the notes, the textbook and at least 2 websites).

Total points for assignment: 10

Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):

SWBAT discuss how the development of one of the 5 Ancient Greek historians and scientist of their choice has
shaped the way we record history, make scientific developments and uphold medicinal etiquette.

SWBAT describe the ways in which one of 5 Ancient Greek historians and scientist developed or began their
fields

Lately we have been learning about Greek Philosophers, who can tell the class what a
philosophy is?
-wait time 1-2 min
Based on what students answer, continue with asking students to name a few philosophers
they have studied so far (Socrates, Plato and Aristotle).
Well, today we are going to go more in depth in the fields of history, science and medicine.

- Based on student response point out how without science
and history, we would not have been able to develop medicine
and made discoveries, and without history we wouldn't have
learned from what happened in the past.

important from Thucydides written work )
HISTORY SECTION:
-After going over Herodotes and Thucydides, ask students
how were their methods similar and different. (have students
discuss this with their tables.)
-Listen to 3 responses from students and elaborate
depending on what they came up with.
SCIENCE SECTION:
-Ask students how the way Thales developed science is
similar to the scientific method, ask what is the scientific
method.
-Ask why would historians consider Thales a scientist
(discuss with their group)
- Briefly talk about Pythagoras and show what the
Pythagorean Theorem is but not with a lot of detail because
its content they wont see till next year.
MEDICINE SECTION:
- Ask Why is Hippocrates known as the father of science? 3
students.
- Remind students of what an oath is and give real life
examples such as oaths made by girl scouts, clubs and the
pledge of allegiance.
-Ask what are some of the rules in the Hippocratic Oath?
-Move onto Kahoot activity

The ELL student will be given preferential sitting, close to the board in order to have easy access to the teacher.
The teacher will also check on this student to make sure they are understanding the information.

different gods and goddesses. Please create a twitter post from the person you researched
answering the following question
