Based on the investigations we did in class and their results, I claim that air
is matter. When we had weighed a playground ball with no air in it, 297.4 grams.
After adding air the ball massed 299.7 grams. This proves that air has mass.
Also we had done another experiment to test whether air has volume. We took a
piece of paper and put it on the inside of a cup. Then we pushed the cup into a
bucket of water with the opening of the cup facing up. The paper got wet. The
whole thing was reset but this time the cup was pushed into the water with the
opening down. The paper did not get wet. . In this demonstration, you might
compare it to a wall blocking the airs way to escape. This is because two objects
made of matter can not be in the same place at the same time Once again the
experiment was done again but with the cup down and a hole in the bottom of the
cup. The paper got wet. When the air did not have a way to get to the surface of
the water it was trapped under the water in the cup. The air kept the water out of
the cup and the paper did not get wet. This shows that air has volume. The
definition of matter is physical substance that occupies space and possesses
mass. This is exactly what the air did, proving that it is matter. The paper did not
get wet the second time the experiment was run because air was taking up
space in between and the water. Air was forced together putting force between
the water and the air in the cup putting equal force. The paper and the water
could not reach the paper. This is because it is matter. Based on the
investigations we did in class and their results, I can conclude that air is matter.

I believe that the air is matter as we have done many tests to prove this. I
know that air is a matter in science class we did an investigation on
whether air mass has mass and whether it had volume. When I conducted
an experiment to see whether air has mass we took had taken a flat ball
with no air and massed weighed it. Its weight mass was 297.4 grams. W,
but when we pumped it up with air and weighed it once more the weight
was 299.7 grams. this shows that the air definitely has mass as, if it did not
than the weight of the ball would have not increased. Also I had done
another experiment to see whether air has volume. I performed this test by
taping a small bit of paper towel on the bottom of a cup and submerged it
up-right into the water, than the cup would be flipped upside down and
submerged, and finally we would add a hole at the top of the cup. During
the first demonstration where the cup would be submerged right side up the
water simply entered the cup directly making the paper towel wet. In the
second demonstration we had flipped the cup with the paper towel upside
down and submerged it. The result of this was that the paper towel had not
gotten wet due to the fact that, since the air in the cup was trying to escape
and at the same time the water was trying to fill the cup the air formed a
barrier protecting the paper towel. In the final demonstration I had kept the
cup flipped upside down, but at the top of the cup was a hole. The paper
towel had gotten wet due to the hole at the top of the cup, however right
after the water had gotten into the cup the air had escaped from the cup
and to the surface. From all of these three demonstrations, I know that air
has volume because if it didnt during demonstration 2 the water would
have gotten to the paper towel, but since the air had volume it had
prevented that from occurring. I knew that air has mass as, before I had
even conducted the experiments science class. I had watched a tv show
which showed an experiment to test whether air has mass or not. It was
called the balloon experiment. What they did was they had taken a ruler
and tied it to the ceiling, which was then hanging to balloons one of the
balloons had been blown up more than the other. If air has mass then the
balloon will be able to drag the ruler to the side its on and will lift the
smaller balloon. It did just that which meant that air has mass.
