SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES 2013-2014

FACULTY CLASSROOM OBSERVATION
Faculty Candidate: Renee Mendenhall
Faculty Position:

Assistant Professor

***PLEASE GIVE NARRATIVE COMMENTS UNDER EACH HEADING***

Topic of discussion or nature of activity:
Intra oral exam of the time and tooth anatomy of the time
Delivery style (e.g., lecture/discussion, demonstration, student activities):
Student activity and discussion
Classroom climate (e.g., instructor/student interaction, responses, learning environment):
Very casual and student were comfortable asking questions. Students were focused and all
participated.
Knowledge of subject matter:
She has the knowledge but questioned herself which detracted from the teaching moment of the
correct information, even though she decided she gave the correct information.
Comments and observations:
She had the students work in groups to discuss and write answers on the white board, and had
one group explain their answers, but then didnt give the others a chance to explain their
answers. I think it would have been more effective to let all groups share even if they are similar,
as the students clear as they verbalize their answers.
I liked that she just didnt give answers to the anatomy activities, but showed what they had
wrong and they had to go figure out where they made the mistake.
Please rate the instructor according to the following scale:
