Competency Name: Analytical ability

Broad Definition: Ability to make systematic and rational judgments based on relevant information.

L1 (Novice):

Gathers relevant information & organizes the same in a logical manner


Asks the right questions to clarify the information
Is able to break down problems into simple, reasonable and understandable parts.
Arrives at conclusions after verifying the same with supervisors & colleagues

L2 (Proficient):

Can break down problems and remove the irrelevant information


Can identify the key elements from all relevant information
Can identify connections between two or more bits of information/situations that may not appear to
be obviously related
Can draw conclusions/arrive at the best course of action based on relevant information, and
support the same with facts

L3 (Mastery):

Identifies potential issues / opportunities in complex & dynamic situations while taking cognizance
of the interests of all stakeholders involved (customers, management, associates, etc.)
Can draw from past experience to arrive at the fundamental elements of a problem/concern and
also foresee implications of proposed solutions
Can integrate trends / patterns in information to the macro / external environment trends. Can draw
logical consequences/implications of the same
Can accurately estimate the risk associated with the proposed course of action
Can effectively mentor others to acquire this competency
