The main purpose of assessment is to

enhance teaching and learning process.

This week's video clips & tutorial were
based on the course introduction and
the learning outcomes.

In this week's readings and tutorial, both

"Assessment" and "Evaluation" were
analyzed. At first, I found it really hard to
differentiate between the two
terminologies. However after carefully
examining their differences, I now know
that assessment is the process of
collecting evidence of student learning;
whereas, evaluation is the
decision-making process to assign a final
grade.

For me, the most interesting aspect of

this course is the principle and practices
of sound assessment. This knowledge
is essential to me as a learner because
I can implement this learning into my
teaching practices and I can prepare
sound assessment to evaluate my
student learning.

Week 1

Week 2
Having read and discussed both
formative and summative assessment,
I acquired essential knowledge
of both types of assessment and
their main purpose in education.

This week's topic was about learning

objectives and it's role alongside the
assessment process.
I am beginning to understand that student learning
is divided into three particular domains: Cognitive,
Psychomotor & Affective domains. Subsequently, each
domain has been divided into several levels depending
on the extent of the curriculum. In this course, we are
examining Bloom's taxonomy which follows the cognitive
domain. Additionally, I learned that cognitive domain
measures the thinking level of student learning which is
organized from lower to higher level thinking skills.

Now, I know how important learning

objectives are in identifying and meeting
the learning goals. Furthermore, it works
as a guideline to create a measurable
assessment tool. I also learned how to use
Bloom's taxonomy to organize the learning
objectives of a course in order to articulate
the end-result of the acquired knowledge
and skills.

Week 5

I now know that the goal of formative

assessment is to monitor student
learning with an ongoing feedback;
whereas, the goal of summative
assessment is to evaluate student
learning at end of the instructional
period.

Week 3

Week 4

Week 6
This week, we analyzed the
reliability and validity of assessment.
Through readings and video clips, I
realized that assessment is reliable only
if it consistently attains the same results
with the same cohort of students. Most
importantly, I learned that validity of
assessment is how accurately it measures
what it intends to measure. Therefore, sound
assessment should be both reliable and valid
for it to measure student
learning.

I really enjoyed this week's readings

and I learned that authentic assessment
is more than just presenting students
with tests and quizzes; it is rather a process of
challenging students to analyze and synthesize
their learning by demonstrating their knowledge and
skills through a meaningful application of tasks.

During this week's tutorial, group

PBL scenarios were presented. It was
quite interesting to see each group's
perspective and different ways of solving
Ms. Cator's problem. I learned that no
matter what approach we take to solve a
problem the end result is often unique
and rewarding.

Week 7
Week 8
This week we examined portfolios and
I discovered that portfolios are the best
form of reflective learning. It is one of
the most powerful tools to showcase students
depth and breadth of knowledge and learning growth.
Through the use of portfolio in this course, I developed a
coherent and unified sense of learning and critical
reflection.

After exploring different types of rubrics,

I realized that rubrics are assessment
tools used for grading student performance
to provide ongoing support through formative
feedback. Furthermore, I developed a
significant understanding of Analytic and
Holistic rubrics. Analytic rubrics articulate
and assess student performance based on
each criterion assigned by the instructor;
whereas Holistic rubrics assess student
performance across multiple criteria as
a whole.

Week 10
Week 11

Week 12

Throughout the 12 weeks of Assessment for

Adult Learning course, I acquired knowledge of
authentic assessment and how to analyze,
synthesis and develop online adult assessment
tools. Moreover, working collaboratively in PBL
projects, I learned how to select, create, and
justify assessment methods for Ms. Cator to
reach her learning objectives and teaching
goals. After taking this course my attitude
towards assessment has changed and I now
know how to apply digital technologies to
support assessment processes in real-world
contexts.

Week 9

CATs

After reading and viewing content

about "CATs this week, I learned that
Classroom Assessment Techniques
are formative evaluation methods
which are used throughout the course
to collect & verify student learning.
In addition, CATs help in assessing
students understanding of material
and measure the efficacy of teaching
methods on an ongoing basis. This
understanding is useful to me as a
learner because I can use CATs
in my future teaching career.
