MYOFW (MAKE YOUR OWN FOOD WEB)

GOAL: Model how food chains interconnect to form food
webs
How does it work?
You will first create ONE food chain independently using given
organisms
REMEMBER: producer herbivore carnivore top carnivore
You will then COMBINE your chain with your shoulder partner to create
a mini food web by finding overlapping organisms
You will then COMBINE your new web with your table to create a bigger
food web

EXAMPLE
My food chain:

My partners chain:

Phytoplankton shrimp fish

shark

Algae shrimp squid whale

shark

Our mini food web:

Phytoplankton
Shrimp
Algae

Shark

Fish
Squid

Whale

CREATE A WEB
GOAL: Model how food chains interconnect to form food
webs
How do we start?
Read the descriptions of the organisms given to your table.
Independently create a food CHAIN that includes AT LEAST 1 producer
and 3 consumers
PRODUCER -> HERBIVORE -> CARNIVORE -> TOP CARNIVORE
What next?
With your shoulder partner, find organisms that you both chose. Create
a food web that includes ALL of the organisms that you picked and
write it on your WS

What next?
With your shoulder partner, partner with the partnership across the
table (4 people in total). Find organisms that overlap and create an
even bigger food web. Write it on your WS

INDEPENDENTLY flip your worksheet over to the back

and identify herbivores, carnivores, producers, and
decomposers at a VOICE LEVEL 0.

QUIZLET #5
LABEL each of the following roles in the food chain given
below (YES each organism can have more than one role in the
food chain, and words can be used more than once!)
Primary Consumer
Tertiary Consumer
Producer
Secondary Consumer

Carnivore
Autotroph
