Israel and Palestine Peace Solutions
Israel and the Palestine have been having a conflict for several decades. One
of the most violent and latest situation to rise up during this conflict is the Second
Intifada. This is the time when the Palestinians mount a large attack on the Israeli
Forces in an attempt to retaliate the Israelis. This was however in vain, and the
attack was repulsed and ended in 2005 when the Sharm el-sheikh summit was held.
This conflicted caused the lives of 3,000 Palestinians, 1,000 Israelis, and 64
foreigners. With all the conflicts that have been occurring for several decades now,
Israel and Palestine have come up with some solutions to resolve this problem.
There are generally two widely thought of ideas as to how to come to peace
between Israel and Palestine. These include the one state solution, and the two
states solution. One state solution would however prove to be the superior solution.
The one state solution is widely accepted and favored by the Israeli Arabs,
and many other nations around the world. In this solution, the idea is to have the
three territories, namely Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Israel merge into one unified
nation where civil rights are equal among the citizens. Although criticized by several
groups, this solution had become increasingly popular. This is not because of its
effectiveness, but rather because of the two states solutions ineffectiveness.
Several group, notably the Hamas and up to 70% of Palestinians, refused to be
divided into two states, and wanted the whole land to become what used to be their
homes. There are still problems with this solution. Many critics argued that this
merge would turn the Jewish population into a minority, and would thus render
Israels existence meaningless. This is however a point to be debated.
Then there is the two states solution. The two state solution is the idea that
both Israel and Palestine would co-exist as neighbors peacefully. Although there
have been many efforts and disputes as to how to divide the land, both Israeli,
Palestinian, and even the Arab League insisted that the border should be that of the
1949 Armistice agreement. This idea is supported by many foreign nations as well.
It is however safe to note that this solution had become increasingly unpopular in
the recent years. According to one source, up to 78% of the Palestinians were not in
favor of the two states solution. This solution has become increasingly unpopular,
with an average of 3% decrease in popularity per month during a time when the
Israelis were occupying Jerusalem.
In conclusion, there are two main ways to resolve the current IsraelPalestinian conflict. These include the one state solution and the two state solution.
Although it had been the talk for several decades, and the US has also supported
the two states solution since the 1970s, this idea has become increasingly
unpopular in the recent years. If the Israelis and Palestinians want to make peace,
more peace talks have to come up, and it would mostly likely be in favor of the one
state solution, where both nations would merge into one unified nation, where equal
rights are promised to all citizen of all ethnicity.
