class, The Pigman. Please complete the worksheets and reflection assignments to the best of your
ability. Do not feel rushed to complete everything. I hope you feel better soon.

Assignment List for The Pigman

After finishing chapters 1 and 2:


o Fill in the character sheets for John and Lorraine. Try to use evidence from the
book to help you fill in the sheet. Continue to fill in the worksheet while reading
the book.
o Read over the class prediction sheet. Feel free to add in any predictions you have
for the book. While reading through the novel, fill the sheet with answers from the
book.
After finishing chapter 3:
o Complete the worksheet for chapter 3.
o Write a memoire:
A memoire is a piece of writing usually involving recalling a memory
from the past.
These are the questions to answer in your memoire
Think of a time you became friends with someone.
What was your first impression of him/her?
Did you expect to be friends with this person?
How did you become friends?
What is he/she actually like now that you know him/her?
2 paragraphs, 4-5 sentences per paragraph
After finishing chapters 4-5:
o Complete the worksheet for chapters 4-5
o Write an interview
An interview is a piece of writing designed to obtain information about a
person or an event
Use the interview worksheet to help you write an interview.
Choose a person among John, Lorraine, or Mr. Pignati.
Design 3 questions to ask your person about his/her first meeting at Mr.
Pignatis house.
If you choose John or Lorraine, create three questions to ask him
or her about his or her meeting with Mr. Pignati
If you choose Mr. Pignati, create three questions to ask him about
his meeting with John and Lorraine
After creating the 3 questions, answer them as if you are the person being
interviewed.

After finishing chapters 6-7:
o Complete the worksheet for chapters 6-7
o Write a diary entry
A diary entry is a piece of writing that usually records what happened over
the course of a day
Write a diary entry as if you are John or Lorraine after you discovered Mr.
Pignatis secret.

o Write a memoire:

What did this person do for you?

o Read the Whos Guilty story and answer the question before reading chapter 10
After finishing chapter 10:
o Complete the worksheet for chapter 10
o Think about symbolism.
Symbolism is when you have a person or object that represents an idea or
quality
For example, a crown represents royalty
Dove represents peace
Heart represents love
Try to come up with an example of symbolism
o Now compare your answer for the Whos Guilty story.
The class came up with new representations for each of the characters in
the story
Wife = Loyalty
Assassin = Duty
Husband = Job/Career
Lover = Sex
Boatman = Money
o Write a reflection

What would happen if you fail to be responsible?
What do you think will happen to the house with John and Lorraine in
charge? Do they seem like they understand their responsibilities?

After finishing chapter 13:

o Think about trust and how it is related to responsibilities.
What responsibility did Mr. Pignati trust John and Lorraine with?
How do you feel John and Lorraine feel for failing to be responsible?
How do you feel Mr. Pignati feels for finding out how John and Lorraine
took advantage of his trust?
o Write a letter of apology
A letter of apology is very similar to a letter, except its main focus is to
apologize for something the author has done
Pretend you are John and Lorraine and write a letter of apology to Mr.
Pignati.

o Think about parental influences
Complete the worksheet on parental influences

How did Johns parents or Lorraines mother affect them as a person?
Now think to your own parent or guardian. How have your parent or
guardian affected you as a person? Give a few examples.
o Think about guilt
Think back to the Whos Guilty? story
When something happens, can guilt be blamed only on one person, or can
multiple people be guilty of something?
Write a reflection
Who do you think is most guilty for the Pigmans death?
Do you think only one person is guilty, or can multiple people be guilty?
Why do you think this person(s) is guilty?
