a pediatrician is that the study to become one is very long and
expensive. Also becoming too attached to a patient, dealing with very
sick children or even death sometimes, working long hours and
weekends, and being on call all the time are all disadvantages of being
a pediatrician.

this career option: Im very outgoing and I get along with many
people. I give great advice and am always there for anyone who needs
help. Whether it be family issues, friend problems, or anything in
general. I am really good with kids, and knowing their needs and
wants.

Occupation?
Classes needed in high school are Chemistry, Biology, Physics,
Calculus, English, and a foreign language. Also being involved in
extracurricular activities make a huge impact on how the Universities
see you as a student. Bottom line is to develop good study habits and
to be involved. Also 90% - 100% is required in all of the courses you
take in high school for grade 11 & 12.

13. Working conditions: Examining and diagnosing children of all


ages with a variety of health issues is a large part of a pediatrician's
work. This often may lead to exposure to contagious illnesses. Being a
pediatrician if often challenging because some patients are too young
to sit still and explain their illness. Pediatricians have a wide range of
knowledge, from new born babies to teens. You could be working with
a new born and then the next patient could be a teen. So keeping that
in mind you would have to change gears and change the subject very
fast.

14. Describe what has influenced your choice of this


occupation: I love working with children and helping people out. I love
talking to people about their problems and trying my best to help and
comfort the person. So keeping all of that in mind I chose to become a
pediatrician. Becoming a pediatrician has its ups and downs, but in the
end it will be worth it all.

Studies show that there will be an 18% raise of need for pediatricians
from 2016-2022. There are not many pediatricians in British Columbia,
so the government will be paying more so that more people come into
this field.

9. Skills or characteristics required: Youll be dealing with people


so youll need social skills. Your patients might be scared, injured, or
seriously ill and you would have to find a way to calm them down and
for them to trust you. Sensitivity and self-control are much needed
socials skills. A radiologist must have advanced analytic skills to
correctly read X-rays and charts. Communication skills are also
required. You must be able to listen to patients complain and know
exactly what to say to calm them down.

10. Disadvantages of Occupation: The studies to become a


radiologist cost a fortune and also school time is 12 years long. Patient
contact is very minimal. Youll only be talking to patients while doing
scans, and after that you will probably never see them again.

Im very patient and can work for long hours. I dont mind talking to
people, but when I do need to talk to people I am very understanding. I
have great social and communication skills. I can listen when I need to
and I can also provide warming advice.

Occupation?
Courses required in high school to get into radiology are chemistry,
physics, biology, calculus. An average of between 90%-100% is also
required as well.

13. Working conditions: Radiology is one of the few careers in


medicine where you dont have to talk to patients very often. So if
youre not a people person, you already have an advantage. You'll
have to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the major imaging
technologies and understand how to get the best possible images of
each area of the body.

occupation: I love studying the human body, and looking at pictures. I
want to go into a medical career path and this just happens to be my
second choice as a career.

there will be many jobs offered for radiologists. It is a hard career to
get into and the government will do anything to attract more people
into the field. So if It means that the government has to raise the pay,
so be it.

pretty handy with tools and repairing things as well.

Grade 11 and grade 12 calculus, physics, English or communications,


physical education, and a practical electrician course. You would need
anywhere between 72%-100% to get into this type of trades career.

13. Working conditions: Electricians stand for long periods, and


frequently work on ladders and scaffolds. Some electricians may work
in dusty, dirty, hot or wet conditions. In places such as ditches or other
confined areas. Electricians risk injuries from electrical shocks, falling
from heights, and cuts.

occupation:
I do not want to go into this career at anytime soon, but I have chosen
this simply because I have to choose a trades career. Hope you
understand! But I chose electricians as my choice for trades because I
have always been interested in learning about how the electricity
works around the city.
