Technology Applications

This course will provide a general introduction to computers and an in-depth look at Microsoft
Office. The importance of computer literacy topics such as hardware, software, operating
systems, programming languages, data communications, the applications of software and
information systems. Emphasis will be placed on PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, Word and
Outlook. Students will be given the opportunity to receive their IC3 Certification as well as
several other Microsoft Office Certifications. This course is designed to enhance students
computer literacy skills, enabling them to be successful in their after high school endeavors,
whether it be college or out into the workplace.

Introduction to PowerPoint

An introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint presentation graphics program. What is PowerPoint?
PowerPoint helps you create, edit, and manipulate professional-looking slides that you can use to
facilitate meetings, supplement classroom learning, and share information using a wide variety
of media including graphics, pictures, and audio and video clips. Creating a slide show may
seem like an overwhelming task, but PowerPoint provides many features that make that task
easy and fun. A good presentation holds your audiences attention without distracting them from
understanding the information you are presenting. PowerPoint allows you to use color, design,
sound and video to illustrate your points effectively. These options can all be used to emphasize
your points and clarify your information.

Introduction to Word

This course is designed to introduce word processing skills using Microsoft Word to create
business documents. What is Word? Word is a powerful, full-featured word-processing
application. You can use Word to create reports, tables, letters, memos, Web pages, and much
more. The Word features enable you to prepare documents efficiently. Word provides many
features that give you the ability to improve and enhance your documents. Editing and
formatting features gives you the ability to refine your documents and determine how they will
look on the screen, on the Web, or as printed pages. Word provides a number of features,
including pictures, drawing tools, data elements, templates, and styles, which will all help you to
create an attractive document.

Introduction to Excel

In today's fast-paced, technical business environment, numbers are everything. Much of our
success hinges on how well we can manage the data - statistics, planning, reporting - that we
encounter on a daily basis. We learn how we are doing and discover our next course of action by
studying numbers. An incredibly powerful tool for doing this is Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Excel is
the standard spreadsheet application for both the business world and personal use.
In this Introduction to Microsoft Excel course, students will create and edit worksheets and
workbooks. This course is designed for students who want to gain the necessary skills to create,
edit, format, and print basic Microsoft Excel worksheets.

Advanced MS Word
Prerequisite: Introduction to Word

This course is designed for those individuals who have a reasonably extensive experience of
using Microsoft Word and would like to build on their skills with a deeper understanding of
features and techniques including but not limited to the processes of sharing, managing,
designing, and customizing Word documents and features. This is an advanced course so all
students entering the course will be familiar with the Office ribbon and understand basic Word
features.

Business
Internship
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval
This course is designed to have students mentor/tutor students at our local elementary schools
or to have our students working at a business within the community. This course is designed with
one goal in mind: to prepare our students to be College and Career Ready. Students will learn job
etiquette, problem solving, responsibility, people/social skills, and the importance of punctuality
and attendance. With exceptional assessment tools, detailed occupation profiles, and
comprehensive post-secondary education information, students will move seamlessly through
the career exploration and planning process.

Introduction to Business
Prerequisite: Technology Applications recommended

The major purpose of this year course is to provide students the skills needed to effectively
organize, develop, create, and manage a business. Students will learn the significance of math,
reading, writing, and communicating to their future within the framework of operating a small
business. They will understand how the market economy and ownership leads to wealth creation.
Students will learn not only the skills necessary to become a successful business person but also
the attitudes, characteristic, and techniques needed to succeed. They will learn to be able to
save and make future investments in order to meet their financial goals in life. Students will build
analytical skills through solving complex problems and making sound decisions in order to
produce a viable business.
Emphasis is placed on the functions of business management: organization, management,
finance, marketing, information technology, product/service management, distribution,

promotion, and selling. Additional topics to be addressed are the government's role in a business,
the assessment of personal skills, the components of the free enterprise system and its place in
our global economy, human relations and interpersonal skills, career planning, the importance of
business ethics, and the role quality and service play in business.

Money Management
Prerequisite: Computer knowledge recommended
This course is designed to make students aware of the financial challenges confronting them in
daily living. Included will be such topics as how to make intelligent decisions in spending and
saving; how to maintain good financial records; how to avoid financial disasters that result from
the unwise use of credit and credit cards; information about banking services, insurance choices,
and investment choices; and how to prepare income tax forms.

History of Video Games

Prerequisite: none

A comprehensive study of the evolution of video games throughout history including arcade
games, console games, computer games and mobile applications. Students will become
acquainted with representative game designs through playing games, analyzing games, reading
and writing about games.

Video Game Design: An Introduction to 3D Modeling

Prerequisite: History of Video Games recommended

A comprehensive study of the evolution of video games throughout history including arcade
games, console games, computer games and mobile applications. Students will become
acquainted with representative game designs through playing games, analyzing games, reading
and writing about games.

Digital Game Design

Prerequisite: History of Video Games and Video Game Design: An Introduction to 3D Modeling

This course introduces digital game design, including planning, designing, and developing an
original digital game. Topics include analyzing the target audience, pitching an original game
concept, understanding the Game Design Document (GDD), the iterative process and rapid
digital prototyping.

Video Game Prototyping

Prerequisite: Digital Game Design

An introduction to the fundamentals of computer game prototyping with an emphasis on
scripting. Students will create mockup environments and objects of interest using placeholder
assets, apply game rules and interactivity, and demonstrate pre-visualized game concepts.
Topics include layout, possibility space, content integration, scripting, team collaboration and
workflow. Students will create 3D computer game levels using one or more modern game
engines.

Industrial Arts
Design Manufacturing and Technology 1A-1B
Prerequisite: Drafting 1A-1B
Topics covered in this one-year course include design, manufacturing, and management
components of modern industry while reinforcing academic learning, creative expression,
interpersonal interaction, interviewing skills, and role-playing in an industrial setting. Students
apply CAD skills using MasterCam software to produce numerical control programs and machine
parts through hands on computer-aided manufacturing. (CAD/CAM)

Introduction to Engineering and Architecture Design 1A

Prerequisite: None
This year-long course is open to all students in grades 9-12 and introduces the concepts of
technical drawing and engineering communication. Topics covered include: drafting standards,
layout skills, pictorial representations, orthographic projections, auxiliary views, and
dimensioning techniques. Students in this course will become familiar with manual sketching and
drafting techniques commonly used in industry. Students in this course will also be introduced to
AutoCAD 2014 Software on the latest state of the art computers to produce engineering and
architectural drawings. Skills learned in Drafting 1A-1B are critical to future success in the
mechanical engineering, architecture, or design pathways. No prior drafting experience is
necessary to succeed in this class.

3D Animation 1A/1B
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to develop both the awareness and appreciation for the art of animation
while incorporating technical and computer skills to produce 2Dimensional and 3 Dimensional
designs. The students will incorporate the artistic background of storyboarding, color, texture,
and design/animation theory with technical computer skills, including the Internet, multi-media,
video incorporation, file management, as well as other hardware and software considerations.

Robotics 1A/1B
Prerequisite: None

An Engineering Technology program that will allow students to study pre-engineering in a unique
way that blends the principles of engineering and technology. In addition to classroom activities,
experiments and labs, students will investigate through the design and fabrication of robotic and
automated systems. Robotic competitions, design challenges and project based activities will be
used to assess students skills and abilities.
